I started using this lotion (the 20%) a little over a week ago. I put it on 2-3 times a day, and so far I've seen a little improvement. My arms are deffinitely less red where the KP is, and maybe a little more smooth. I've only had KP for a few years (I'm 17), so there's not a whole lot on my arms for me to work through.
I've never had a problem with any sort of lotion irritating my arms, so I figured this wouldn't either and I wasn't paying attention to where I was getting the lotion, but after about 5 days the inside of my elbow was a litte red and starting to burn. My arms don't feel dry or "crinkly" at all yet, and they didn't tingle or anything the first time I put the stuff on. I'm really impressed with how fast the stuff soaks in, so you don't have to walk around waiting to get dressed or anything while the stuff soaks in. I'll continue using the lotion and let you guys know how it's going. |

Hey guys, what's up?
I had purchased the NeoStrata: Oily Skin Solution: Glycolic Formulation: 8 AHA. Does this mean that it is only 8%? I see that that the 20% has worked for some of you out there. I purchased my 8 AHA bottle a long time ago and it didn't do **** for me...so I still have half of the bottle in my medicine cabinet. Maybe the one I got wasn't concentrated enough. Didn't get a chance to read all of the responses to this thread, but could someone just give me an overview of the results of the 20%, any side effects and where I might be able to find it at the cheapest price? I'm sure all of you have spent butt loads of money in treating kp (I myself am one of you). Thank you all ![]() |

Hi! I posted my story in here a few days ago.. As I mentioned in that post I have started with the 10% and it's been going well . That was until yesterday when suddenly those painful acid marks appeared on my arms again.
What should I do? Should I find a lotion with an even lower precentage of AHA? Any ideas? Thanks in advance Last edited by scarlet; 02-05-2007 at 02:04 AM. |

Hi!It's been about a month since I've started this treatment.I'm using neostrata 15 twice a day and am waitng for the dcl 20 to arrive.I haven't noticed any drastic changes yet but I know that it takes !months! to see some actual results so I'm being patient and optimistic. It actually means a lot to me to see that my bumps are getting a bit smoother which means that the ahas are doing their job.My skin is moisturized and shiny which I love as well,at least I dont have to apply tons of lotion on my otherwise very dry skin.
Scarlet, are you doing physical exfoliation as well? How many times a day do you put the lotion on?Maybe you should use it just once a day or even every second day.Just a thought... |

Hi - has anyone ever tried finding a product via their health food store? I am curious to know if anyone has found a natural product that helps their KP. Thank you!

hi everyone! It is so great to see that people are willing to be so consistant and share their progress with pictures and everything. I have been hanging around the oil pulling forum and this one for several months now.
I have moderate KP. Not a lot of redness just bumps that I feel everywhere. Arms Butt thighs, calves. I would love to just see it gone on my arms. A few months ago I started with the aha 20 and stuck to it twice a day for 7 or 8 days and started to get burn marks or redness on my arms. I think that twice a day may have been too much. So I stopped completely to let them heal. Then I decided to get some oil from reading about the health benefits and possible KP healing benefits on the oil pulling forum. I bought virgin coconut oil from a health store called WILD OATS and have been pulling for one week now and also using the aha 20 just once a day for a week usually on my arms. I oil pull in the morning for about 20 minutes. So far my KP still feels bumpy, but my skin feels soft. Not smooth though. I know that a healthy diet enhances the effects of oil pulling and it seems because I have eaten a lot of sugary foods lately it has given the oil pulling much less of an effect. But other things I have noticed of oil pulling are white teeth, pinker tongue (no white stuff on the back of tongue) and my facial skin looks more radiant. (haha) I dont know really how to describe it. But it looks more awake and bright. I like the coconut oil. It tastes nice and I just occupy myself for 20 minutes while oil pulling and It feels like it was only a couple of minutes. I am going to stick to this routine and pray that the AHA doesnt burn my skin from once a day use. I dont exfoliate in the shower. I Like to use DOVE NUTRIUM with a buff puff thing. NO harsh scrubbing. I realize that my kp spreads or it irritates other parts of my skin and causes new kp breakouts when I tried the harsh scrubbing routines. So DOVE Nutrium in the shower, AHA 20 once a day, and virgin coconut oil pulling first thing in the morning for 20 minutes. That's what I do and and will keep doing along with trying to stay away from fried or sugary foods. Thanx for reading. good luck to all of you. |

Hi: I'm new here. Just wanted to report my results after following Turquoise's advice. I'm female, 37, and have had keratosis all my life. The one time I did not have it was when I spent a lot of time in the sun when I was 16. At that time, it completely disappeared. But in my 20's and 30's, I have stayed out of the sun and the keratosis got worse and worse every year.
After reading Turquoise's original post, I thought I'd give her advice a try and this is what I've found: One month ago, I purchased some 8% AHA cream and used that twice a day, every day for two weeks. There was a little bit of improvement (very small patches of keratosis-free skin). Once I got adjusted to the AHAs, I decided to move on to the next higher level, 15% AHA. Two weeks ago I purchased some Neostrata 15% AHA lotion and have been using it twice a day, every day. The keratosis pilaris is very slowly going away. VERY slowly. Once my two bottles of Neostrata 15% is gone, I plan on trying the 20% stuff for a while. Also, I haven't had any burning issues with the 15% AHA, thankfully. So, although it's only been two weeks on a low AHA and two weeks on the 15% stuff, there is a definite, noticeable improvement. I plan on doing this for a few months to test Turquoise's theory; so far it's working. |

KP cleansing and exfoliating regimen
I am just learning how to use this message board and inadvertantly posted twice, the first time in the wrong place. I was telling about my KP regimen, and here is the link My KP regimen ( 20 years and going!)

I am interested to try this because I really don't mind or care about burns or anything- just one of those people, I suppose. Buuuut, I am wondering if this is readily avaliable in drug stores (like Longs, Walgreens, et cetera) because I'd rather get it there. I'll go down to Longs and check, I live five minutes from one, so it's no big deal.

Hi Everybody,
I just joined this group a few days ago, and I must say it inspired me to go on a KP rampage. I read the posts, jotted down names of lotions and creams, and went to my local CVS. You know how Freud said if you don't spend money, you don't get better? Well, I was ready to get better. I bought AmLactin 12% ($14), one loofah ($3), one small tube of hydrocortisone cream ($4), and a bar of sulfur soap ($1). Then I went to Whole Foods and picked up a jar of EV coconut oil ($13), since I've been really intrigued by oil pulling too. Being an all-or-nothing kinda gal, I tried everything at once, except for the hydrocortisone cream, since I wasn't sure if it was the right thing anyway. Almost immediately I noticed what I would call a 75% improvement. I don't need to tell you guys the ways that KP has impacted my life. Suffice it to say, I see my pain, frustration, shame, aggravation in every post I read. Of course, now I've sort of screwed myself since I don't know exactly which of the cures, or combination thereof, was the real deal, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it was the humble and inexpensive SULFUR SOAP!! Ironic since it was the last thing I'd expected, thanks to Freud and his coke addled proclamations, I dropped it into my cart as an afterthought and wasn't even gonna try it. The reason I'm crediting the soap is that the minute I rubbed it on my scaly, Braille-y carcass, my arm skin became smooth and even slippery, a feeling I've never known on that area of my body. Is there something in the sulfur that dissolves the buildup? Because that's what I felt happening. I went so far as to loofah, soap, let soap sit, loofah, repeat, etc, but honestly, the result happened right away, almost as if the soap had washed away the rash like it was dirt. Then later on I applied the AmLactin, pulled my EVOC, and did a stint at the tanning salon, because sun and tan has always helped my KP A LOT. Although I don't want to ask too many questions about what I consider a miracle, I'm wondering if I can top off my soaping with a nicer-smelling soap to wash away that freshly-lit match aroma. I did a quick rinse with some Johnson's baby bedtime cream wash, and it seems to work just fine. Thought I would share this with you all, and the little nugget of wisdom I gleaned from the experience -- just because the problem is complex, doesn't mean the cure can't be simple, and just because I'm willing to spend thousands on a real solution, doesn't mean it has to cost that much. Thanks for letting me ramble and rave, and ps: I don't know the name of the soap (I will post when I return to CVS), it had a Spanish label, contained lanolin, and was on that shelf with the kind of Spanish botanica specialty products, like violet water, emu oil, tres flores perfume, Clubman talc, and so on. Hope this helps |

Hi everybody
Two months of the aha treatment are behind me and the results are very very good. The bumps are almost gone and my sking feels a lot smoother. The redness hasn't changed much,I expect it to go away at the end of the treatment. The first month my skin used to be moisturized but not anymore,it is dry again and I noticed some flaking today but no irritation or itchiness so I suppose that's nothing to be worried about.I had some very mild kp on my stomach which is totally gone now so I think there's no reason the aha shouldn't work on my arms and legs as well.I'm so happy,I hope you are having success as well, good luck! |

Turquoise...I have been using the 15% lotion and I'm about to go ahead and order the 20%... just wondering if it's ok to keep using my regular old Curel lotion (for dryness) along with the AHA?

I'm trying to get 15 and 20 % lotion here in Canada but you need a prescription and the pharmacy will make it for you. There is only 1 dermatologist in the city and she is useless. I asked her for the prescription and she sent me to a laser center to have them use their lotion, it's 8%, less than I can buy over the counter. I think she gets a kickback. I looked her up on ratemds.com and she has a very poor rating. It's a great site to get reviews of doctors. I can order some glytone from a canadian web site, I think it's 17%. Let you know how it goes. Can you use the 10% on your face or is it too harsh?
