spearmint oil question

Hi,

To the person who posted earlier about how spearmint oil (taken orally) helped her daughter's KP, has it continued to work?
Has anyone else tried spearmint essential oils?

Preview Yay_for_me - We started taking it again about 1-1/2 weeks ago, and yes it is working! We had stopped for about 2 months because she refused to take it because of the strong flavor (we mix 1-2 drops in about 8 ozs. of juice). For the first 5-6 weeks after stopping the spearmint, we used a geranium/chamomile/jojoba mixture topically which was very effective, but not the cure. Prior to starting the spearmint again recently, we tried the sea buckthorn soap and lotion for about 3 weeks, but she slowly got worse.

After starting the spearmint oil this time around, again, the same thing happened: after the first few days, she gets worse (imho, it is pushing something out of her). Some areas even temporarily look like eczema and psoriasis, which I find interesting because based on what many on this list have said, the three skin diseases seem to go hand-in-hand. Then she starts to heal and clear up. This time was far, far, far less in terms of how much she broke out, so I feel we are definitely making progress!

I did recently see at a health food store that you can buy capsules of spearmint leaf. I'm not sure how the potency would compare with a drop of oil, but would be an option to try.

For any who plan to try the oil, please be sure to use an oil labeled for internal use or dietary use. We worked with a practioner in this area, and also consulted with another alternative practitioner. She had said to continue with the spearmint oil until about two weeks after all signs of KP were gone. Also, be sure to use probiotics to maintain a healthy intestinal/stomach flora.

We'll keep this list posted as to our progress!

Health food stores carry probiotics, as will drug stores. They are usually comprised of at least 6 different live cultures - acidophilis is one of them, the stuff in yogurt.

I sincerely hope you get the same results we are getting! Please keep us posted, as will we.

Can you use the spearmint oil continually or as long as you want, or should you take breaks? How many times a day can you take this stuff? How many drops each time?

I ask, b/c I'm buying it tomorrow for sure, b/c I think it's some kind of bug to, b/c my skin looks infected and that's all there is to it... And I won't give up, b/c a year ago I never had this ****..... Until, I got very sick in November.. Then things went downhill and that's the god's honest truth.... Please give me info on how to use this..... Thankyou very much and I hope your daughter gets better..... Keep at it.....

Oh, is oil pulling going to effect the spearmint?

:-)

Hey freakzilla154 - I gave my daughter two drops a day - she is about 40 pounds - mixed in her juice or rice milk. How much you weigh would possibly impact how much you would need to take. You could take it twice a day, maybe start with 2 drops each time and gauge it from there. Make sure you mix it with enough juice/rice milk (1 drop to 4 oz.) so you don't irritate your stomach. Also, be sure to take probiotics throughout the day. Sorry I can't be more specific - this isn't an exact or proven science.

To answer your other question freakzilla154, I don't think you'd want to take this long-term, especially if you are taking several drops a day. You may develop a sensitivity to it. I know many people who put a drop of lemon or lime in their water for flavor and antioxidant benefits (a bit stronger than buying lemon or lime water - you can also buy spearmint water now:-) and don't have a problem long-term, but they aren't doing several drops a day, every day.

An interesting update on my daughter: Shortly after I posted last time, she again refused to continue taking the spearmint, so I still don't know if this will eventually cure her of KP. Her skin was looking so good again.

Then, shortly after starting daycare this fall, she contracted impetigo, a bacterial infection that gets under the skin, common in kids under 6 (so I'm told - I had never heard of it before). She was put on an antibiotic, cephalexin, that is used for skin bacterial infections. Guess what???? Once again, her KP flared up in spots (not near as bad as the first time) where she had previously had KP AND scabies. And again, it then healed up beautifully. Her redness is completely gone, but she still has some bumps on her arms. The interesting thing is that the bumps have not gotten worse (no new bumps), but have not gotten better - there is absolutely no change in them for about the last 2-1/2 weeks. I'm hoping that they just slough off in time.

The alternative practitioner who got us into essential oils used Young Living, so that is what we bought. It can be used internally. Please keep us posted!

Oh, I just saw the site with the spearmint oil.... I'm alittle worried now, b/c it's not approved by the FDA... I'll let you know what I do.... Just got some vitamin C to build my immune system alittle, b/c I'm always sick for some reason.... I just don't understand..... Anyways, I probably will try the oil, but if you can't continually use it, what about if the KP comes back as in your daughters case? Do you think I should try? I don't know what the hell to do.... JESUS!
