I wanted to find out how this correlates to this drug. I did always have some KP growing up, so so mild, it was not an issue at all...I didn't even know that it had a name!.
Well I'm 29 now, and was on Roaccutane for 5 months 1 year and half ago, and it just triggered my KP!!. I'm wondering who has taken it, and how long ago?. I hope it goes away before menopause, like it says on some sites!! Yikes! |

I haven't taken it, but I heard it was supposed to help KP, not cause it.
Yikes! Is there anything else that may have caused it? Hormone fluctuation, stress, poor/different diet, food allergy, weight gain, climate change (did you move?), etc. Think about what may have changed in your life besides that, and maybe we can narrow it down. I hope it's not the Accutane, b/c my dermatologist wanted me to try it to lighten my scars (from picking KP)... I don't know whether I trust Dermys anymore anyway...![]() |

I was put on Roaccutane a few years ago to treat the type of KP I have. It didn't make it worse or better. It may pay to have a think as Allison suggested at any other changes in lifestyle that were happening about the time symptoms worsened. My KP has only got better with age but in saying that I have had no changes in weight, diet or place of living. To be honest I am amazed at how many people on this site are having their KP worsen later in life. If someone had the know-how it would be good to do a poll and find out what other factors in their life changed during that time. I can understand puberty and pregnancy making KP worse but am at a loss to understand why people in their 30's and 40's are finding KP becoming more of a problem.

Well, there have been no changes in diet, stress, location, or anything for me.
But on my endless research of KP (I think I could write a book by now... and probably all of you too!! ), I found sooo many people talking about their KP worsening after Accutane.I think, it get triggered if you have a predisposition to KP, and doesn't happen to everyone. Dermatologists are sometimes clueless about sideeffects and I wonder how they can speak with such persistence about conditions they've only read on books. Having it yourself, is a whole different perspective. If a doctor tells you take Accutane for KP, run!!! run the other way!!!!... I wish I could undo putting that stuff into my system!! |

Accutane
I tried Accutane after I had my first son. I was around 20 and it was horriable at first but then after 3 months it was the GREATEST thing i ever did. I had perfect skin. I believe Accutane helps more with acne problems then KP problems. I tried it because I had real bad acne after childbirth and since I was a teen. After the 3 months I seen a huge difference and my KP wasnt that bad at the time neither. BUT, Now my acne problems have come back and my KP has worsen. It has been 9 years since I used Accutane though. The Doctor said it could return after 7 years and it did it just took 9 instead. I'm thinking of trying it again though since I had a huge respond.
But remember everybody reacts differently to everything something thats works for one might not for the other. |

I do believe that Accutane is a great medicine for acne, it did a great job for me, and I had none of the weird side effects that are listed on the box (like suicidal thoughts!).
But there's no mention about KP, so I think this is probably something fairly recent. The thing is that KP is not acne, and that's why acne medicine or lotions dont respond to KP, and the results of Accutane will be only temporary... and I heard, they come back worse!. I still think it's irresponsible for Derms to be prescribing accutane as a cure for KP... just watch out. Take care all ![]() |

Women please be careful with Accutane I am sure that you are aware of this but it can cause birth defects if you happen to get pregnant even a month after you stop using it. I also have a friend that thinks her use of Accutance lead to depression, which is a known possible side effect
Just wanted to make sure that you were all aware |

Hey Kimberly,
its just a thought, but by taking accutane/roaccutane/orotane(many different generics) you changed your skin. maybe your acne has come back because your hormone levels are changing-causing your skin to change again. I took accutane about 2/3 years ago and my skin was great for a while. then it just deterriorated. I think the cause is hormones, because i eat healthy, exercise etc. I am taking accutane again, and am anxious to see if it will work properly this time. |

Alwayshopeful:
I didn't have KP untill about one year after i went off accutane, so it could have an influence. I actually did suspect it for a while, but i now think that it is just one of many factors that combine to give us KP. Accutane doesnt even help my KP. Im on it now(been on it for 4 months), and just this afternoon i was inspecting my bumpy arms ![]() |

Around 21 (I am 24 now) I also took Roaccutane. I dit help my acne, but since then my KP started to worsen. So I wouldn't suggest it to anyone. I've read that those medicins can cause damage to the liver. And my accupuncturist stated a while ago that KP has something to do with the liver, so maybe that's the answer to the question why so many people had side effects with their KP???
