Exclamation HELP! am I allegric to coconut oil?

Hi, please help! I have been diagnosed with kp and nothing has helped. not the lotions, nothing. I tried the coconut oil by rubbing it onto my skin, and it made things WORSE! immediately I was redder and itchy. i tried to scrub it off and it was awful.

Am I the only one who this "miracle cure" doesnt work for? please help me!

Clarify what kind you are using, how much and exactly how you are applying it- (ie, in the shower, when wet etc?)

oh sorry I was not more specific. I applied it to dry skin, rubbed it on and then took a shower to wash it off.

I have never put it on dry skin. I can see why it might irritate. I have super sensitive skin, no perfume/ fragrance etc. and gentle lotions make me red, itchy and break out in hives sometimes.

Try following the post on how to apply the coconut oil in the shower, when you are already wet, not using too much and then gently rubbing it while under the water. I have not had any problems and I use it all over my body. I did experience some itching on my scalp when I used it as a deep conditioner, but that was after quite a few hours! Good luck.

Same thing happened to me!

It's so funny that that happened to you! The exact same thing happened to me the first time I used it, it was all itchy and my arms looked so much worse. So I took a break from it for a week, then I decided to try it again and it has been working wonders for my arms. My KP is almost all gone! I think if you have a chance where you won't be going out for a bit, or wait till when you can wear long sleeves without people asking you why, then you should give it another go! Good luck.

Kelsey

Oh, and apply it to wet skin in the shower. I applied it to dry skin the first time and that's most likely why it didn't work.
