I've been putting up with KP since my early 20s (now 29). I just learned what it is this past week when I got fed up and took a trip to the dermatologist. I found this website today (what would we do without the internet?).

It's nice to at least know what it is. I always just thought it was an extreme form of dry skin or something. I was kind of learning about KP without knowing I had it. I've had a routine of applying a good lotion after getting out of the shower for several years. I learned that hot showers make things worse. I learned that steroids clear it up very quickly after a severe case of poison ivy and a subsequent cortisone shot + oral prednisone (following the medication I had the worst KP ever).

The dermatologist gave me Glycol shower soap and Glycol lotion. I've been using them for a couple of days and it seems it's helping some.

I also have a red face, and never could explain why. People occasionally ask if I've been spending a lot of time in the sun. The dermatologist didn't comment about my face, though.

For those that have tried the coconut oil...does it leave you with a "feminine scent?" If the Glycol products don't work I'll try the coconut oil, but I wonder if I'd end up smelling like a woman at the beach.

No feminine scent. If the oil you are using smells like tanning lotion- you are using the wrong thing. The extra virgin smells a little bit in the jar and when you first put it on, but it does not smell like coconuts as most people are familiar with. I have not had one comment on the way I smell with it on, and I slather it on everyday!
