I just joined today and started reading past postings. I was so excited to find that I am not alone. I have had KP for 24 years. It was noticeble at the age of 4 and has gotten worse, then better and back and forth for years now. I have tried everything under the sun on my skin, eating certain food, using specific detergents, you name it! I have even followed a dermatologists rec. to use sand paper on my body. Well, I was desparate and did it. I was in so much pain and had scabs for a week or two, but my skin sure was smooth. I suffer with picking just as some of you have mentioned. I hate it. It is all over my arms, my legs and some other areas. It hasn't always covered my legs and arms. My parents both have it. It has gotten worse for them. They did not have it in childhood. I know lots of other people who have it and they don't struggle with or have very mild cases. The sun helps to dry it up some times. I find that if I try to forget about it, It looks better to me. That may just be in my head. My twin brother has it and my younger brother has very little to none. I read that it is more common among women and thought that was why my brothers do not have it as badly as I do. Someone on the forum argued that another girls looked more like acne. I have to say in some areas mine looks like that too. My face is not too bad, but can flare up. I have never had severe acne or anything, just thousands of little bumps all over my body. My parents and I have spent thousands of dollars over the last 28 years and nothing cures it. I have changed my diet, exercise, water intake and everything. I believe it all effects KP, but haven't narrowed anything down. All dermatologists say the same thing. My mom thinks it is like a fungus or something. I hate it and dont' know what to do about it. Well, that is my info. Oh, Allison asked about weight and body type. I am pretty tall, eat healthy, and work out on a daily basis.

Welcome! Actually, I asked about type, location, and if you think it's genetic (sounds like it is) or "contracted"... There was someone else asking about weight and body type, though.
Can't remember who, Green Bean or Angelica, maybe? If you haven't already, reply to the "Research: Please read and ..." thread. Thanks! Every little bit helps!

Hi, welcome on board this thread because our journey shall be exciting because in here we learn to be positive about seeking a result through some analytical work (e.g. Khrissy3000 & allisonsullivan) will guide us through their latest findings. In addition, over at my end, I'll try to contact respective media and organizations in my region and beyond to and hopefully get our calls heard worldwide.

How would you like to contribute? Btw, using detergents would be too harsh for one's skin. Remember, do not hurt or inflict yourself with things like using sand paper. Should you need some exfoliating aiding clothes, get one or two from The Body Shop @ http://www.thebodyshopinternational.com/web/tbsgl

Good luck and best wishes.

Khrissy3000

I have tried acupuncture approximately 3-4 years back and was told that it will take many years before it can be cleared. In other words, the physician knows that only time will clear any skin problems so, he 'honestly' says that it takes a long time (as in many years)....Nevertheless, there is no harm trying over at your end.

I'd like to add to this. I don't think KP has much to do with obesity. I got KP about 2 years ago and I was not fat at all (95 lbs and I was only 5'0; I think that's considered underweight O_o). I think it could be related to genetics and puberty (I was 13-14 at the time). I've noticed my father has a severe case on his back and mild KP on his legs, same for my mother (when I say mild, I mean you barely see it unless you closely examine it). My KP is pretty noticeable (but not severe) on my legs.

Arrow Differences!!

KP varies in people, that is why we have to look into so many different causes and treatments so that each individual can have a positive response to treatment...KP is not just genetic or hormonal.
But the link between everyone on here is we are all frustrated, stressed and anxious...another words nobody will respond to treatment positively, or at least a small portion will.
As i mentioned in another forum, you need to close the open door before you will respond to treatment the way you want to.
I am not just making this up as i go along, i research this condition about 3-4hrs a day.

Is there a possibility of altering one's skin DNA? Something like gene therapy:-

"Gene therapy is a rapidly growing field of medicine in which genes are introduced into the body to treat diseases. Genes control heredity and provide the basic biological code for determining a cell's specific functions. Gene therapy seeks to provide genes that correct or supplant the disease-controlling functions of cells that are not, in essence, doing their job. Somatic gene therapy introduces therapeutic genes at the tissue or cellular level to treat a specific individual. Germ-line gene therapy inserts genes into reproductive cells or possibly into embryos to correct genetic defects that could be passed on to future generations. Initially conceived as an approach for treating inherited diseases, like cystic fibrosis and Huntington's disease, the scope of potential gene therapies has grown to include treatments for cancers, arthritis, and infectious diseases. Although gene therapy testing in humans has advanced rapidly, many questions surround its use. For example, some scientists are concerned that the therapeutic genes themselves may cause disease. Others fear that germ-line gene therapy may be used to control human development in ways not connected with disease, like intelligence or appearance". (Adopted from HealthAtoZ Encyclopedia - Index G)

Hi

How's everything? Has anyone got any updates? There was this programme last night in Singapore cable television (BBC channel) called The World Uncovered, Last Hope..... featuring EmCell Clinic, Prof.A.Smikodub. He has helped many disabled people with the use of his Stem Cell research methods and in the tv programme, there was a point where they mentioned something like having a segregated storage for Skin Stem cells. You may want to read up more about his work and accomplishment @ http://emcell.kudina.com/

May the Almighty God bless all.

Best wishes

I have read an article and the writer said that KP has got nothing to do with one's food intake? We are what we eat, be it spiritually or orally. Don't you think so?

There was a particular spot (KP) on my thigh and after applying something (which I couldn't recall), it had smoothen out and its redness faded subsequently. I'm unsure if it's the Camomile (a.k.a. Chamomile) essential oil that's working hard on it or what. But I've got to try out again on other spots to affirm the result and share with you guys and gals.

Btw, has anyone tried applying Olive oil on their KP? I'm trying out on this Virgin Olive oil application / technique on my upper arms every night, 20 mintues before my shower each day. Shall update all after month of trial. Meanwhile, take care and all the best to all.

I was taking Roaccatane for 6 months to clear my acne. This works by drying out the skin. Soon after I stopped taking this, my KP started. Do you think this drug could have caused it or helped cause it?

It is quite impossible that Isotretinoin triggered or was the cause of your KP.

Roaccutane helps by drying out acne-like papules on your skin. Moreover, Retin A derivatives are 98% effective on acnes (on a case-by-case basis). As for KP, it will definitely return after your prescribed course of Isotretinoin.

An alternative treatment for your acne is 'hormonal treatment' (*Warning ~ only female could be on this treatment because if guys were to go for it, breast may develop). Further details, please consult your dermatologist. Below links are for your reference:
1) http://www.dermnet.org.nz/treatments/antiandrogens.html
2) http://www.acneguide.ca/articles/hor...t_of_acne.html

Good luck and may you be well and happy.
