Trying new treatment - I want your advice!

Hi.

Give me advice/opinions/comments. All inputs are very welcome and appreciated! I'm not sure if i'm doing anything right, so please help correct me with anything.

I'm an 18 yr old male and i've had KP for quite a while now. Sick of not being able to wear the proper summer attire all the time so I did some research and went to the store to grab some stuff. I'm primarily trying to focus on arms - upper and lower arms and also my back and shoulder areas.

Stuff I picked up -

  • Neutrogena Body Clear Body Scrub - with salicylic acid 2% for treating acne. --- I figure this will help when i'm taking a shower as I often hear some properties of acne treatments also help with KP. ($6)
  • Eucerin dry skin therapy PLUS Intesive Repair Body Creme - "Cilnically proven effective for very dry, rough skin" "alpha hydroxy and extra-enriched moisturizers repair and soften" "Non-irritating, non-greasy, fragrance free" --- and here is the line that got me excited "Clinically proven to relieve skin bumps often found on the upper arms and legs" I do believe they're referring to KP. ($6)
Here's how I plan on using them -

I'm thinking of using the Neutrogena for showers. probably use it with a scrub or something.

then I"m thinking of exfoliating the areas I want to apply to with some kind of a buffer and then putting on the creme.

Am I doing this the right way? One question I do have though is this - how often do I exfoliate my skin? Everytime before applying the creme or just once in a while?

Please help and thanks for reading. I really do appreciate it and i'd do the same for all of you.

Well?

I have used the Neutrogean scrub before and it did a good job of getting rid the bumps but not the redness, i only used one bottle so maybe it would have if I used it longer because it seems to take longer to get rid of the redness. If i remember correct the scrub did a good job of exfloliating my skin so I am not sure that you need a rough scrub beforehand. I use a gentle sugar scrub that i like a lot, i use it everyday and it really helps to soften my skin. If you already have a harsher one, like a pumice stone or something like that I would only use it two or three times a week

Good luck

Careful with the creme, I just bought it. Maybe use very small amounts, because I used it earlier today and it's a very thick creme, it leaves a shiny greasy look even after you rub it in forever, and its sticky throughout the day. I'm not really happy with the way it makes my arms look and feel, but you might have different results. Good Luck!

My daughter and I both used the Eucerin intensive repair body creme and I too was very hopeful because it says it is clinically proven to relieve skin bumps found on the upper arms and legs. It didn't help at all for either of us. I don't really mind the thick creme if it does the job but it didn't. My daughter has the redness too but I don't at all. It didn't even help with that but don't let me discourage you because different things work for different people. I have heard some good things about neutrogena products so I am going to give them a try for my daughter. Also they do have Eucerin intensive repair lotion that I also purchased that is a little lighter on the skin with just about the same ingredients.

It's been about a week now that i've been using the two.

I am seeing a slight improvement in the texture and bumps, but the redness is still there and seems slightly a bit more red now than before. Not sure if it has anything to do with the treatment or the fact that it's been triple digit temperatures where I live.

My skin seems much smoother and I think that's from the Neutrogena scrub alone. The creme is very very thick and though I use it, I don't really like doing it because it gets kind of sticky. "non-sticky" my ass.

Question - What can I do to tone down the redness? I seem to be toning down the bumps so if anyone can help me out with this, i'd appreciate it.

Definitely DEFINITELY try the Bath & Body Aromatherapy Eucalyptus Spearmint Lotion!!! Not only does it calm the redness but it helps rid of the bumps as well..I've been using it for roughly a week and I'm loving it!!
(and keep in mind that I am a 26-yr old who has tried every single possible product for KP out there in the last 10yrs..)
I've never worn this much t-shirt and tank tops (in public) ever in my life~!
