my diet affects it
i'm almost sure that my diet affect this kp business. I've been trying to cut out things here and there and see what makes things better. I think dairy, sugar, or/and coffee might induce it.
Coffee is my newesy finding..i know....it sounds weird....but whenever i drink, i've finally made the connection that that's when it starts to come back a bit more. Can anyone try this for like a week or two??? thanks! |

For me I don't think caffeine affects my KP, it just gives me the most awful bad stomach cramps and ... well ... urgggghhh.
But I think the fact I'm sensitive to certain foods, such as caffeine, and milk etc is testament to what I believe to be foods affecting/exacerbating my KP. I've got a feeling dairy is a prime suspect. |

Well I'm now firmly back on the Montignac track, which allows low fat cheeses, and fat-free yoghurts, but no fatty milk or butter. It just turns out I pretty much cut out milk completely as a consequence.
Having done a shop yesterday with a Montignac friendly shopping list I bought some Gruyere. Oh my, how delicious is that stuff???? I'll report progress. |

Good luck Daisy and Flo! Let us know how it goes. From what I have read on this site, many KP-sufferers have allergies and/or food sensitivities, and many have also reported that certain foods seem to exacerbate their KP (refined sugars and breads, some dairy, and alcohol seem to top the list), so your theories seems consistent with others' on this forum. I don't drink coffee (I'm 19 and have only had ever four or five cups in my life). I do drink tea, though, but it's usually organic and home-brewed. I don't drink too much of it either, and have noticed no correlation between consuming more or less of it, and the state of my KP, so I doubt caffiene is what's causing (or that it is even affecting) my KP. I tried an elimination diet a month or so ago where I did not eat any wheat or dairy for two weeks, then incorporated dairy back in the third week, and then wheat back in during the fourth week. My skin did not get any better or worse during the four weeks. My energy remained the same (I am always a bit sluggish), though my digestion was better when I was off wheat (I noticed no change with the dairy - interesting since I was lactose intolerant as a baby). I have read though that if one really wants to know if gluten affects them they would need to stop consuming it for at least a month, so perhaps I did not give my elimination diet enough time... Starting in September, I think I am going to cut all dairy and gluten-containing foods out of my diet, then incorporate dairy back in in October or November, followed by gluten products in the winter. It's my attempt at a more extensive elimination diet that I hope with yield more reliable reults. I will report my progress! Peace! Namaste, GreenBean |

GreenBean, you have to cut out gluten and dairyproducts for a longer time. Some people can see results very quickly, but for most people it takes about 3-4 MONTHS before you see results! (Iīm a nutritional therapist)

bumpsnomore: the protein in soy milk is quite hard to break down and therefore can cause problems in a lot of people, maybe you should look at rice milk instead.

Yes, itīs the same way with everything you eat and when you change your diet and/or take extra vitamins and so on. Like I said before, in some cases some people can see results in just a few days, but in MOST cases it takes several months. Itīs very easy to try something and give up when it doesnīt seem to help. ( Iīm like that too...I think itīs in the human nature to want quick results...) so you just have to compare the pros and cons, if you really think that itīs worth it. You can make your own nutmilk if you miss dairy, just blend for example cashew (gives the smoothest milk), almond or sesamseed with water until itīs smooth. (You have to have a really good blender though.) It only takes seconds! And if you want it to be more like cream, just add less water. Itīs excellent to use when youīre cooking and want the food to be "creamier".

Been firmly on Montignac for one week now, plus exercise, plus moisturising with Coconoil. Not only has my KP improved no end .. today you wouldn't know I had it - yesterday I had about one bump per square inch, but this afternoon I cant' really see anything. But anyway, that's improved, and my energy levels are through the roof (gone from 10 mins on exercise bike 3 weeks ago to managing 50 minutes flat out this morning).
I really ought to just accept that refined flour and sugar, high GI carbs and milk just don't agree with me. My gut feeling is it's all linked - my KP, my weight, my lethargy. |

I love soy and rice milk FAR more than cow's milk, so the whole dairy deprevation aspect of this trial diet is not what bothers me... The gluten-free half of it will be far more difficult to get used to. But I have been eating less and less of that the last couple months to ready myself, and am doing alright. In addition, there is so much gluten-free pasta and bread out there now, so I can at least pretend! Again, thanks! I won't start for a while, but I will let everyone know how I do. Quote:

Cheers Greenbean. Even my Mum commented yesterday that my arms look healed. They just look mega-freckly now from the scars. As everyone says, it helps that they are tanned, and that the bumps look less with tanning. They're still there, the little beggars, I can see them on the profile of my arm, sticking up, tantalisingly pickable. But I seem to have broken my urge to pick.
I'm SO glad I found this forum - I check in every day and every day I think, "If I pick, I'm going to have to confess to having undone my hard work". Keep going guys - I have no doubt mine will flare up again, but for now it's pretty manageable. I'm sitting here at work with a short sleeved t-shirt on and not caring. Apart from the almighty blue bruise on my left upper arm where I tripped and fell off the exercise bike and bashed myself on the door frame .. looks like I've been thumped! But, get this, a girl I work with said "ooh look at your bruise .." and she stroked it ... meaning she stroked my arm ... and I didn't flinch thinking, "she'll feel the bumps" ... for a moment there I felt like I had normal arms because she didn't react to anything but the bruise. |

It's too bad it took a fall and a bruise to feel normal, huh? Good for you, tho!
