Tanning to camouflage redness/blotchiness

I have red bumps AND general inflamed blotchiness on my upper arms. In addition to that, the non-red areas of my arms are extremely pale from years of covering up / exfoliating! I've decided to try tanning (I'm going to the beach in a few weeks) as a way to help make the redness less noticeable, but my question is whether anyone else was successful in doing this -- or did all that sun just make the redness more inflamed? Should I stop applying all these active creams before I go, to reduce the likelihood of my skin just becoming more red and irritated? Thanks.

I believe in the archives there is more about the sun's effect on keratosis pilaris...I believe it said that the sun can reduce it by acting like a natural exfoliant but it will increase your chances of contracting other problems. I suggest you use the search option at the top of the forums and search something like "Sun's effects" or something like that.

My experience has been that a tan has deminished my redness. My arms always seem to look better in the summer.

...most of these creams will make your arms sensitive to the uv rays. be careful not to burn.

have fun at the beach.

yes i believe the reason it stops the redness is because it opens your pores, or so i've heard

Thanks!! I have a very bumpy, very red case, so I plan to discontinue use of the creams about a week beforehand, apply a low SPF, lay out and keep my fingers crossed!!
