Re: Any British KPers out there?

I have noticed that allergies seem to be connected with kp so watch what you eat it makes the condition worse, for me its wheat, gluten and diary. Have you tried the Sanctury salt scrub from boots? smells lovely and is a double whammy cos it exfoliates and moisturises at the same time. Put it on a rough sided sponge when you have finished showering/bathing have a quick scrub and rinse off.

Re: Any British KPers out there?

Hello!

I'm from Birmingham and have had KP for all my life. I'm now 26 and looking back at my life I know that my skin has got a lot better, in my teens I would have never gone out without having my arms covered but I'm fine with that since my skin has improved. I have it on my arms, my entire legs and a little on my face by my eyebrows. I am blonde with fair complexion.

I have tried numerous lotions but to be honest I don't think I stick with some of them for long enough to notice any difference.

What I do do reguarly is exfoliate with a dry skin brush and use exfoliating gloves in the shower. I love these gloves so much I can't live without them! I change them every couple of months and they only cost about £3 from boots.

For a while on my face I've used a l'oreal (i think) moisturiser with AHA's called vitamen radiance. It's very light which I like but there isn't enough in the bottle to use reguarly on your whole body.

When I was younger I used to pick at my KP terribly. This has had both good and bad effects. On my upper arms where I used to pick I now have very little hair growth so my skin is smooth and KP free. I have tiny scars from them but they are unnoticable there.
However, on my shins where I picked there is still hair growth and because of the scar tissue (which is thicker then normal skin) the hairs get trapped a lot deeper and generally look worse.

I try and wax as often as I can (which isn't that often) on my lower legs because I do believe that the less hair growth you have the less KP you'll have. Unfortunatley because I'm blonde laser hair removal isn't an option.
On my upper legs the skin is pretty smooth, a little dry, but is covered in the red dots. I would love to get rid of this!

At the moment I'm more concerned about how much the scars show on my shins. So I started using palmolives cocoa butter and when I went to go back to boots for more I noticed they've brought out a cocoa butter with AHA's and Sal. Acid!!! So i'm starting to use that now to help with the scars and remove dead skin.
I've tried foot creams (like soul owner) in the past but I'm scared about the high acid content of these. Soul owner says to keep the skin out of sunlight and I go on the sunbed once a week... which brings me on to my next tactic...
Sunlight! Of course I can't promote sunbathing and neither can dermotologists because of the risks involved, but it really helps my skin. After a couple of days on the beach in the summer i'm just about brave enough to wear skirts! So I go on a sunbed once a week but I do not have a tan at all. This is really just to try and get more vitamins and help my skin circulation. We are living in the UK after all!!!

I do think I have a problem with blood circulation and that effects my skin and makes the red dots worse, and makes my colouring blotchy, even on non KP areas. I've tried to combat this with the dry skin brushing, healthy diet, exercise and drinking lots of water. I thought about taking some horse chestnut extract which apparently is good for circulation but I don't really want to try this until I've talked to a doctor.

So, my actual question! Who here from the KP has been to a dermotologist? Did you just get a reccommendation from your GP? I've never been to one and in the US it seems like an every day thing but I don't really know how to go about finding one over here and whether I'd have to pay, or get it on the NHS, or private health insurance... any help?

Sorry for writing so much!

EG

Re: Any British KPers out there?

Hello, I've had KP all my life...but I have it fairly under control now.

Things that have helped:
Omega oils (internally), and/or lots of oily fish and seeds. Pumpkin seed oil on salads is yummy.
Any gentle exfoliant - body brushing is good if your skin can take it, otherwise I find the Body Shop scrubs excellent as well. The suggestion to use pumice made my eyes water!
Moisturisers with Urea, such as Calmurid, and Flexitol (really meant for feet, but it works well on those skin plugs)
Also Sandorn body oil by Weleda. It's expensive to buy in the UK, but if you ever have a trip to Germany, stock up there. It's half the price, and smells wonderful as well as being pure and very moisturising.
New Zealand Mud - you can use this as a face and body pack, available in some health food shops. Rich in sulphur and very cleansing and soothing for the skin.

Over the years I've managed to banish KP from my face, though I still have problems on my upper arms. The bumps are flatter now, however, and not so red.

Wink Re: Any British KPers out there?

Hello, I'm in the UK too (up north) and am having the same problems re finding recommended items... I've only recently begun to try to 'treat' my KP (upper arms mostly) and am using Dermalogica's Body Hydrating Cream which I got from Beauty Flash - Dermalogica & More (but have seen in several department stores.) It definitely seems to work at exfoliating, smoothing the bumps but it tingles a little on my senstive skin (it contains ahas from fruits)... I shall persevere though and momitor the longterm results! It smells divine incidentally... I've also got the body scrub - does anyone find exfoliating scrubs effective with KP or might I be better off with a mitt/brush?

What other UK-available stuff are people trying?

Re: Any British KPers out there?

Vivien,

Please report back to us and let us know if there is any improvement after 30 days and after 60 days. The remedies you are using sound great -- they appeal to me because they are natural, not chemical. I really hope this treatment works. Let us know.

Thank you,

kebod

Re: Any British KPers out there?

Hi, I'm 20 from Scotland, been lurking about the forum for a while , wanted to contribute some discoveries I have made in the past regarding KP.

Before going on holiday last year I took up a special diet to get rid of fat, this basically meant cutting all carbs and increasing my protein intake . My KP was completely eliminated about 3-4 weeks at the end of this diet. It was extremely strict I cut out all wheat/dairy and gluten foodstuffs and also engaged in intense cardio(I'm not sure if this was a factor in helping) however I had eliminated 100% all redness and spots and hard bumps on my outer arms and upper legs. My KP previous to this was moderate to severe.

Since then my KP has returned after returning to a varied diet. I have adopted essential fatty acids into my diet recently omega 3,6,9 pill and linseeds twice daily to see if it makes a difference. I plan to cut out dairy and wheat and sugar products to see if KP manifests itself due to a food sensitivity as it may well be a factor

Re: Any British KPers out there?

Gere,

This is very interesting. You eliminated the major inflammation-causing foods -- dairy and wheat.

Jessica K. Black, N.D., wrote in her book, "The Anti-Inflammation and Diet Book", that inflammation causes "psoriasis, eczema and most skin complaints". It is possible you had a reaction to these foods that resulted in skin inflammation (redness) and irritation. When you eliminated them, you stopped any reaction.

I don't think this method will help everybody. We have learned on this forum that a method or remedy that helps one person doesn't necessarily help everyone else. I think this is because KP may have many different causes, therefore, different treatments.

You seem to have found the right treatment. Congratulations! This diet method can possibly help others here, but they won't know unless they try.

Thanks for posting.

Re: Any British KPers out there?

Hi Everyone

Im the originator of this post from Nottingham. sorry not been around for a while I have had many computer problems so I just stayed away from the internet until I got it sorted. Im glad to see that people are noticing the connection with diet and lifestyle with KP. thing is you see some people smoke drink and eat **** and they got skin like a babies butts so whats going on there? Anyway it just means us KPers are destined to live as naturally as possible and not poison ourselves with manmade toxins. I found out recently through Kinesiology that I have severe metal toxicity and that is what is causing a lot of my problems including the skin. So major detox there then. Watch this space when I get to the other side of the detox. I have found most NHS health practitioners no nothing about KP and just prescribe you stuff for excema like oilatum. they dont look at the WHOLE person and just treat the symptom. I guess people on this forum know more about KP than most scientists now!!!! Power to the People aye!

Anyway look at the "Higher Nature" (google it ) skin care stuff, all natural and best quality in the uk. I recommend MSM lotion or cream especially for those with mega sensitive skin.

Take care.

LFS

Re: Any British KPers out there?

Ive come to the conclusion that its seems to be a deficiency in something or a build up of toxins or yeast infection that can also contribute to KP. Its important to sort out whats going on inside as well as outside because IT WILL COME BACK eventually when you rid KP externally. Try and detox at least once a year especially your liver and kidneys (just google liver & kidney detox) I do recommend Higher Nature for products because its the best on the market and the quality and service is excellent. Your skin is the best indicator that somethings not right inside.
