St Ives Apricot Scrub?

Hi everyone,

I just bought St Ives Apricot Scrub yesterday. Reading the posts I learned that it works for at lot of people. But when used it I noticed that left my skin very red. Maybe because I rubbed with a sponge??
Does anyone know how to use that will not make my arms much more red than before? The feel smoother now and their normal color ( red dots from KP) returned after a while ... but initially was a little painful and the skin of my upper arms felt over dry.

Anyone???

Ama-KP,

That is the same thing that happened to me when I used it. I find it more helpful to use a loofah with a really, really moisturizing body wash for exfoliating. That way, my arms don't get overly dry. Hope this helps!

I have some of that...I use it for my face.

I never thought of using it on my arms. I'm definitely going to try that.

Thanks

the first time i used it on my arms, it turned red but after i put lotion on, the redness decreased. i scrubbed in circular motion for atleast 1 minute and the bumps decreased. I also used it on my legs and the brown spots decreased !

I am an esthetician and learning about different facial products, I have learned that the ingredients in some of the products like St Ives Apricot Scrub is actually really bad for your skin. I believe it is ground up walnut shell that is the exfoliating factor in that product. So, what it does is that it makes tiny little laceractions in your skin as you rub. Of course it would turn your skin red and probably feel quite irritated also. You should use something like a sugar scrub or anything with a round exfoliant in it, like jojoba. You want to roll the dead skin cells off the surface of your skin and not cut them all over!

Hello!

I've been using St. Ives Apricot Scrub for years on my face and have never had a problem. It removes the dead skin and my face feels quite smooth when I'm done. I just use my hands with no loofah or sponge or washcloth. I rub in a circular motion, but not that hard. I'm only removing the oils and dirt from my face, I'm not removing paint!

I have used it on occasion on my KP but didn't feel like it really helped. Now I'm doing the pumice which is working much better. You may have experienced redness because it was the first time you were using it and your skin wasn't used to it or you may have scrubbed a bit too hard.

And yes, it does contain walnut shells but it's listed on the ingredients as Juglans Regia Shell Powder. There are also two different scrubs. There is the Invigorating in the orange tube (the one I use) and there is also a Medicated one in a white and blue tube. The medicated one contains salicylic acid which helps to exfoliate the skin as well.

I will agree with Dylan22 that you may want to use a sugar scrub as the sugar will dissolve as you scrub and won't be as irritating. You'll also want to put on moisturiser as soon as you can after your shower so that your skin doesn't dry out.

Hi TerriUK

Can you tell what kind of pumice you use, the sponge or the stone?

Hi AmaKP,

Sorry for the delay in replying. We've been on holiday in Italy.

I use a pumice stone. The kind that is used on your feet.
