worse in winter or summer?

Hi. Just joined this board, and have a question. Most everything I read says that kp is worse in the winter vs the summer. Me, I'm just the opposite. My skin looks best in the winter and terrible in the summer. I also read that it seems to fade with age. As far back as I can remember, I only had it on my upper arms and it was minimal. I'm now 36 and over the past 5 yrs or more, it has also developed on my thighs, butt, forearms (which is the worse place of all), and shoulders (only over the last couple months). Just wondered if it was just me who was different from what I read kp is supposed to be like, or if there are other people who are different as well. Thanks for any input you can give.

I think the whole winter/summer thing depends partly on where you live. Many states in the US have high humidity in the summer so your skin is surrounded by higher moisture levels. The higher moisture supposedly decreases the amount of KP.

I live in CA so we're pretty dry year-round. I think my KP is worse in summer but that might be because I'm trying to wear tank tops and short sleeves and am constantly aware of my KP. In winter I can cover up and forget about it for a few months :-)

Mine has also gotten worse with age and, especially, after having a baby. So far nothing I've tried has really made a dramatic difference, other than the temporary improvement from jojoba oil/eucalyptus oil and FaceDoctor soap. I MAY try FaceSurgeon, it's supposed to be stronger. Otherwise back to Dove soap. Cost IS a factor and I'd rather not spend a lot of money for such minor, unnoticable improvements.

Thanks for your input. Seems like the "experts" don't know everything.

I'm no expert myself, but KP probably has greater underlying causes and the "treatments" they prescripe don't really treat the cause. So they probably work for some people.

I suspect that the dermatologists don't really know the success of the prescribed treatments because patients stop making appointments. They get tired of the failure or the cost; the derm. probably assumes the KP went away.
