Just got officially diagnosed with KP/Ulerythema Ophryogenes...advice needed
Well, at first they said the problem with my itchy, red, thinning eyebrows was seborreah....but now my dermatoligist said in regards to UO, "Yeah...it looks like you may have that, actually. I'd like some advice. Does this condition commonly result in total loss of eyebrow hair...or just partial? Does this happen quickly or over a long period of time? The irony is that all of this started when I started changing my diet for the better...getting healthy...getting sun....and excercising. It's interesting to read that sunlight and excercise can make this condition worse....though I'm not sure why that would be.
I'm now starting to notice that my cheeks seem to be getting bumpier. I already have KP on my arms, legs, and back...though it's never bothered me at all. I don't really care about it....just would like to keep my eyebrows....AND they're EXTREMELY itchy, which is bothersome. In any case, I'm wondering about the meds I was given for my eyebrows.: Salex Salicylic Acid cream Locoid Lipocream hydrocortisone butyrate 0.1% If I understand correctly, the salicylic acid is supposed to unplug the hair follicles before they become inflamed...and the steroid is supposed to control the inflamation before it turns to scar tissue? Has anyone tried these drugs and had any success? I'm just scared to make it worse....put toxic goop on it that's going to cause more irritation and more hair loss.....and from what I've read on this site, nothing really works....so is there any real point to use these meds? |

until a couple months ago, i had so many cutaneous disorders it wasn't funny. i had the eyebrow shedding with redness, flaking, and white papules where my eyebrows were located. i had KP all over my arms. i had severely oily skin, huge nodules on my back, and weird sprouts of hair. not surprisingly, all of these things occurred after a 4-year-long binge on fast food and processed food in general. some people may say that diet and lifestyle doesn't cause this ****, and they'll tell you to look at other unhealthy individuals who don't have these skin manifestations. however, when many conditions are met in a genetically susceptible person's body, the person develops these problems of "unknown" etiology.
i visited my primary care physician, an internal medicine doc, a dermatologist, and a couple allergists in hopes of finding a solution. they were not helpful, and one of them even recommended i go on paxel for my "anxiety." ultimately, i thought to myself: maybe what i'm putting into my body is screwing up my skin. i then decided to change my eating habits, and from there i began eating 3 meals and 1 snack a day, consisting of protein sources such as chicken, sardines, almonds, and eggs. my carbs consisted only of alkalizing vegetables and fruits low on the glycemic index. the meat sources were enough to balance my body's pH. i completely stayed away from processed foods, dairy and grains. the human body hasn't evolved to digest grains properly. also, many people have sprue and don't even know it. i avoided dairy because i'm allergic to it. i also began interval training 3 times daily, drinking green tea before each session. the exercise regimen greatly reduced my insulin levels. i recommend everyone follow a similar diet plan even if they're not displaying glaringly obvious symptoms. most dermatological problems start on the inside. |
