If you are like me you may want to know what others have suggested that can help to treat their/your KP, I've been collecting suggestions & I thought I should share these.
Please remember though that KP seems to respond to treatment differently for everyone. NB. My personal situation: I have KP on my upper arms & the front of my thighs, since 14. Fair skin, female. The KP on my arms is currently limited to a few bumps they are filled with white, on my legs they are redder. My KP clears up substantially in warm, humid weather. In Summer I manage it by using Calmurid Cream by Galderma & QV Body wash, but I am still conscious of some on my thighs. It's Winter here at the moment though so it calls for drastic measures, plus I'd like to get clear thighs once & for all. Now to the options that have been suggested to manage KP, that stood out for me. (In no particular order). ADD TO THIS http://www.corialabs.com - Salex cream 1. Raw extra virgin coconut oil by Nutiva - rubbed-in in a steamy shower cubicle or straight after a shower. 2. Philosophy's soul owner, a heavy duty exfoliating foot treatment, the active ingredients are glycolic acid and salicylic acid. Made by Sephora. 3. Diclofenac gel - I know this sounds like a steroid but a google search came up with:'non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)' 4. Vitamin A supplements. 5. Pernox - a google search showed this to be a scrub cleanser. 6. Glycolic acid serum (30) from platinum skincare along with the super intense copper serum with salicylic acid 7. Pumice sponge- Bed Bath and Beyond has them in their spa section 8. Wonderbalm- Ingredients: Neem, Eucalyptus, Thyme, Camphor oil, Calophony and Petroleum jelly. 9. Purifying mud mask from Swisa & product/bath soaker containing dead sea mud. 10. NutriminC RE9 Body Care System from Arbonne 11. Microdermabrasion cloth or a nylon body-polishing towel (this one is available from the Body Shop) 12. Regular salt baths. The German brand is Biomaris 13. Dermaloe. It is 75% Aloe Vera and it has also zinc, Vitamins A, E, and B3, Coconut oil and Calendula 14. 3% Sal. acid, 10% sulfur soap found at sal3 (sorry didn't want to add links) 15. Arbonne's hormone balancing creme - prolief. Suggested use every morning after showering. 16. DermaWheat® wheatgrass recovery cream/spray. 17. Tretinoin cream (0.025%) or Retin A 18. Dream cream from lush 19. Put 2 table spoons of sugar beet molasses into the bathtub and stay in the bath for about 20-30 minutes 20. VISINE ORIGINAL EYE drops on the bumps suggested to reduce the redness, try to put the drops on and let the water sit there as much as possible, sometimes doing it twice. 21. Lather the KP areas with MSM soap (the brand suggested is called "Born again" by At Last Naturals) and leave it on for three minutes. Afterwards use a pumice sponge (NOT stone) gently circle the areas - about 3 seconds per 3 square inches. MSM Soap is fortified with sulfur, aloe vera, botanical extracts and vitamins A, C & E 22. Eucerin red relief daily perfection lotion 23. Using a cotton pad rub 'rubbing' alcohol over the KP area a few times each day. morning, then day, then night and when the alcohol is still damp quickly put on a cream called lotrisone. Which apparantly has cortisone in it. 24. BBW Aromatherapy Eucalyptus Spearmint lotion 25. 2% Tazorac gel 26. AHA peels 27. Epsom Salt - suggested as an exfoliant 2 cups mixed with 1/4 cup of petroleum jelly. Or Mix ½ teaspoon of Epsom Salt into a deep cleansing cream. Or Mix two cups of Epsom Salt with ½ teaspoon of glycerin in your bath or try adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil. Or by massaging handfuls of Epsom Salt over wet skin to exfoliate the body. 28. ZENMED™ Scar and Hyperpigmentation Treatment, Renewing MicroDermabrasion Complex & Skin Eraser 29. Neem oil. 30. Tanning. 31. Swedish Bitters cream or Bush Bitters cream 32. Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser 33. Elicina cream & FreeDerm & Skinkure - mentioning these as I don't want to discount them but I am sorry but these do look a bit dodgy. Be wary. 34. I have also been exfoliating using a daily exfoliating facial AHA scrub, made by ASAP - it works better on my arms, but definitely helped me. 35. Paula's Choice 2% Beta Hydroxy Acid Lotion" (buy it on www.paulaschoice.com). I hope that one of these options will work for you, even if it just helps one person it will be worth it. Please understand I have spent a lot of time on this thread, in the hope that the info I have put up will be helpful for someone & I really would appreciate it if there were no negative comments about the fact that I haven't personally tried out all of these options, I mean there are still more suggestions out there. I am likely to first off try the Salex cream. So good luck to you all & feel free to put up a post about what has worked or not worked for you to help others, these aren't my ideas so if one of them doesn't work for you I won't take it to heart. I was just looking around and came across this thread & thought it was cool...so I am bringing it back to the top!
It just goes to show how our KP is different & that there are MANY different things that may help. I, personally, use #10 Arbonne. |

and the only things i see missing from the list are the Urea Moisturizers and also AmLactin / LacHydrin 12 treatment options as well. i'm personnally trying retin a micro .1% right now and may supplement with Paula's Choice Body 2% beta hydroxy solution, which she's just made a 8 oz version that specifically is supposed to help with KP...

Additional Products and Advice
• Be Cautious with Vitamin A products. I have noticed for me that any vitamin A supplements don't actually help, but specifically beta carotene has been a big help for me. There are different forms of vitamin A and beta carotene which is found in high concentration in carrots, sweet potatoe (pretty much anything naturally found as orange/reddish) is the safest form to use regularly because beta carotene is an inactive form of vita A. This means that the body will chemically alter this molecule, activate it, and use it at its own rate....so it's safer. Remember that too much of any vitamin is BAD.....and really we shouldn't rely too much on vitamins because our bodies mainly know how to extract vitamins and minerals from food, not naked supplements.....so I suggest you start with a little carrot juice on a regular basis and see if you see any changes in your skin. Don't expect to see things clear up immediately, but what I have noticed for me is that it prevents new bumps from forming pretty much all over. Beta carotene/vita A is involved in regulating your keratin production…..I’m pretty convinced of that. Over time you will see, if it hopefully works for you, that you get less to no new bumps forming….G-d willing….and maybe even speeds up your routine exfoliation in the shower and stuff…possibly. But remember…..this option….once started, must be continued or else the bumps come back if you all the sudden stop So be conservative and realize that this might be potent for many of us even though it’s just carrot juice. Because if you overdose and then stop, your body might experience a vita A deficiency at that point and the kp will come back with a vegence. But your diet does effect things as well. Start becoming aware of any foods…..such as chocolate, refined sugar (sweet/very sweet foods, cakes, desserts, drinks) dairy, etc that cause flare up. Isolate one thing at a time and eat just that like twice and see what happens. I and many others are convinced that chocolate causes flare-ups for us.
Now, I take supplements (25,000 IU beta carotene/day) along wih cod liver oil, vita d, vita e…to help with the digestion of the beta carotene…..but absolutely do higher IU of beta carotene/day. 1) St. Ives Apricot Scrub…..and the medicated kind for acne and stuff. It’s an over the counter scrub you can get at the drugstore….I like it lots and lots, but make sure it wouldn’t clog your drain. ***2) Food Sensitivity Testing and researching to see if you have leaky gut syndrome like others on the form have expressed ( read baronster’s post….it’s one of the ones that ave the magic word Cure in them) ….I really think this is the most important thing to do for people who suffer from chronic redness on the face and elsewhere: Our skin produces redness because it’s a sign of internal inflammation response…..that’s because we possibily have leaky gut syndrome and our gut is releasing undigested toxins into the blood which in turn result in a widespread or localized inflammatory response by the immune system which does nto recognize the undigested toxins which have leaked out of the gut. If I understand this condition correctly, then I think what I explained it correct and it really does make sense to me. So it’s not the chronic redness that’s encoded in our genes….redness is a symptom of a greater internal problem…..digestive problems and toxins in the colon, liver, and blood. 3)Turqoise’s post on “I’ve found my Cure” about using glycolic acid treatments to get rid of the bumps and even the dots which represent inflamed follicles that are full of built up keratin and junk that need to be cleared by exfoliation of those layers of skin…. 4) Eucerin Intensivee Repair Cream (white bottle, green cap)…..it has alpha hydroxy acids and a little urea to exfoliate the surface layers of skin….but it’s over the counter so it’s light and conservative..not a serious, harsh treatmnents. ******NOTE: If you are pregnant or thinking of being I think you shouldn’t use acids on the skin or something like that. If you do electrolyis, laser hair removal, chemical peels or harsh microdermabrasion or even wax…you should definitely not use acid, any kind of acids whatsoever on your skin because it’s just too much ‘wear and tare’ for your skin to handle all at once. You might be able to use a very mild acid treatment like 4) above in between wax or laser treatments but be careful and cautious and be gentle to your skin. Don’t apply anything really close before or after the hair removal treatments. 5) Get a water filter for the shower head….there’s a lot of chlorine in really water that’s terrible for the skin..or so they say…..I have yet to do this, but I can’t wait. 6) Get a humidifier for the bedroom or house, so your skin stays moist inside and recharges with moisture while you sleep, especially in the winter……dry skin just adds to the kp problems and makes your skin feel yucky and dry. I think it’s also good if you have really dry nasil passages and can’t breathe well at night. ok…I’ll post more if anything comes to mind |
