People of Color: Sunless Tanning Comments
I have heard several people claim, they've had good to great results using sunless tanners to camoflauge their KP. However, I know there can be this orange faux appearance depending on the method. I would think if you are someone with olive or brown skin this may look even worse, than on someone with pale skin. I am a medium-brown complexioned African-American and would like a quick fix for the summertime. Summers in NYC are hot and humid with all the people and congestion. I also hate wearing long sleeves and sweatpants in the gym. This is the first year where the KP on my forearms have become noticeable. I am thinking about the Mystic Tan, as I'm too self conscious to do airbrush tanning, which I've heard is slightly more realistic looking.
Has any people of color had any positive experiences with self tanners be it: self-applied tanners, Sally Hansen's Airbrush kit or the Mystic Tan? I also wonder how people at the tanning parlors react, when people of color (especially African-Americans) say they want a spray-on tan session. I've heard you get weird looks just to book a regular tanning bed session, especially from female employees. I booked a session once at my old gym's tanning booth and was met with a confused look by the young women behind the counter. This was about 6-7 years ago when the KP was only on my triceps. Now it has spread to my entire arm and leg region. If any one has any self tanners (brand and type) that match well with their complexion, please let me know. I might start with a self-applied tanner on just my arms and legs as a litmus test, as those are the problem areas. My arms and legs would also benefit from the sun exposure, since they are normally covered up. Another thing, does the exfolation (to keep the bumps smooth) degrade the sunless tanners appeareance? |

i am in the same boat as well. i have tried the spray do-it-yourself tanners like coppertone, but they dont help at all. i treid it again last night and im sure it does absolutely nothing. i am thinking of getting a tanning bed tan, but my skin is SO much lighter than my brown dots that i would have to tan a LOT just for them to blend in and im starting to think it wouldnt be worth it..

I am african-american with light/medium brown skin. I don't think tanning beds are healthy for us though. The sunless tanning may work better (the kind you put on yourself). I can just about imagine me walking into a tanning salon and getting the weird stare downs too. LOL! They'd be thinking "what is she doing in here". I've also looked into the spray on's by Sally Hansen but so far I haven't seen anything for my shade/complexion. Booo!! I'll be searching far and wide. If anyone finds something that works...please come back and share. Also, has anyone found a treatment for KP that works well on black skin types? Just wondering.
