KP and dark skin

Hi everyone,

I've been reading through the post and have only come across references to red bumps. I'm a dark skinned African-American and I have a severe case of KP, but for me, it's a bzillion tiny dark dots vs. bumps all over my legs. In other words, I can't really feel it, buy boy can I see it. From time to time, my skin will feel somewhat bumpy and sometimes, the "hard plug" of the bump will come out with the hair attached; that ends up leaving a tiny hole and ultimately that spot becomes even more discolored, but eventually fades. However, the other dots never fade. I've heard people refer to the marks as the "scars" left by KP; however, mine have always been like this.

I've considered using a bleaching agent; however, my fear is that it'll lighten the rest of my leg as well, so I'll end up with the same problem, just a lighter version.

Does anyone else have this same situation? If so, what products do you use?

NO BLEACHING CREAM

Kamster i am also african american with the exact same problem
do not use a bleaching cream. Although my logon name is Robert
I am a female (robert is my dad thats where I got the KP from
thanks dad ). The bleaching cream will not help I have tried that along with everything else. I think you also said you were using the elicina cream well i just started using some. It seems like
it might be working but I am not sure.I also have been taking
vitamin E which alone seemes to be working. I am new to this board I am not sure how these postings work . I think I emailed you also. I never told you about the bleaching cream it will only
bleach the skin around the bumps. The dark plugs will be more
noticeable.

I'm a black male and I have been considering using a bleaching agent in addition to what I use now(Neutrogena Skin Smoothing Lotion daily and a Bath Scrub 2 times a week which has flattened the bumps but I still have dark spots albeit a bit lighter)

What I would like to know robert is what happened when you used the bleaching agent, which one did you use (Hydroquinone, Kojic Acid etc) and was it OTC or prescription because from the research I've done it seems OTC bleaching agents are ineffective at reducing hyperpigmentation particularly in cases like ours.

Hispanic skin

I'm hispanic and have KP on my arms, back, and occassional break outs on my thighs and face. I get both the pink dots and the brown dots (usually scars) so I have to put up with both problems. I take a lot of Vitamin E (the oil footballs, not the dry E capsules) everyday, about four 400mg footballs or so. It really seems to help not only in keeping my skin from being dry and ashy (thus making the dots look worse) but also seems to help my skin stay hydrated and smoother. I also buy the Vitamin E oil (5000 IU) which comes in about a 5 oz bottle and apply it directly to the KP patches. It helps to hydrate the skin, keep it moisturized, and help in the healing process of the scars. It's worth a try and pretty cheap at most health food stores. Use a thin layer so your skin is not too oily, but my skin tends to absorb the Vitamin E as fast as I can put it on. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and helps protect your cells against free radicals and toxins.

The vitamin E definitely helps, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work alone to clear up all the KP break outs. But it definitely helps the healing process and clear up the skin faster with less scarring, which is where I get most of my brown/dark dots from.

Hope this is helpful, ~marissa~
