Hi...after you scrub in the shower, you take the coconut oil and slather it on your skin, rubbing it into your skin but not to briskly, underneath cool water. You then pat your skin dry with a towel and that is it.:-) Good luck...it has really been such a surprise on how well it works!

I have not consumed it yet. I apply it like lotion just like morning bell described in the original post. I lather it on in the shower and rub it in and then gently rinse off the excess. When I get out of the shower i pat dry, let the oil soak in for about 5-10 minutes, rub any excess in again and then get dressed. Oh, I do not use any other lotion afterwards.
The oil is a solid at a certain temp. If I leave it in the shower it starts to liquify because of the hot water and steam so I leave it outside of the shower until I am ready to use it and I store it in a cupboard where it is cooler. I only point this out b/c the oil is a little easier to apply and way less messy if you can get scoopfuls of the solid stuff out and apply that way. It very quickly converts to a liquid in your hand in the shower and can drip all over if you do not apply quickly. As I said before, I apply this to my entire body, not my face, and I have extrememly sensitive skin that break out with anything scented, oiled, manufactured- you name it! I have had zero problems and only improved skin texture, tone and color. I am hooked! Hope this helps. |

Hm, I wonder if consuming coconut oil would provide the same benefits of rubbing it on? =/

Consuming the coconut oil is okay but only at recommended doses. My jar specifically says that no more than 1-2 tsp. a day. I tried and it makes my throat scratchy immediately afterwards.
Rubbing it on the body works alot faster of course. Taking it by mouth to cure KP would be a pretty long process. From what I've read, it could take up to a year to get results from Vitamin A deficiencies. |

Flushedface,
Is it a good idea to use coconut oil on your hair if your hair condition type is oily? What is the price range for purchasing coconut oil in markets? Also, do they even sell them at markets such as Ralphs? |

I use the extra virgin coconut oil as a deep conditioner and left it on for about six hours. I have never viewed myself as having oily hair, but it is blond and I have to wash it everyday or it definitely gets oily. So, I am not sure. I tried it over the holiday break in case it did not work, but I did not have any problems. I only washed with regular shampoo afterward and did not notice any excess oil. I say give it a try but make sure you have time to wash again if you notice it makes your hair more oily.
I paid $14 for mine over 2 weeks ago and I use it everyday for my body. I do not think that I will have to get more until the beginning of September because there is alot there. It comes in a big peanut butter looking plastic jar. Go to www.nutiva.com and use the store locator. |

FlushedFace-
You mentioned how your kp was really sensitive to shaving. Well, I never had kp hardly at all on my shinn area until after I had delivered my son 5 months ago. Then all of a sudden it appeared inflamed, red, bumpy and I also have the 'plugs', too. Sort of like ingrown hairs on my whole legs. I've had kp my whole life. On the backs of my arms, my butt, and my thigh area. But as soon as I gave birth it was ten times worse and appeared on my shinns! Is that how yours is? I am definately going to try the coconut oil but any other tips? |

Exfoliation
Exfoliate by simply using a loofah, sponge, pumice stone, or if you don't have any of these things a wash closh will do. It will help to use an all natural mild soap while you exfoliate so as not to further clog pores or a special exfoliant scrub. Especially use a lubricant like soap if you use a pumice stone other wise it is too rough on the skin. You can even dry exfoliate before you get in the shower to flake off the dead dry skin then exfoliate while showering too.

For me, the more the merrier! Just make sure you moisturize with a good lotion that won't clog pores. I exfoliate and moisturize and drink lots of water. It can only help keep the body and skin hydrated. I've also recently read on here from morning glory about coconut oil which I am going to try in the shower. It sounds very natural and successful for many. Good Luck!

krystalite,
I never knew that the bumps on my arms, butt and thighs and the rash on my cheeks were related until I found this forum. I thought I just had really sensitive skin that reacted to everything badly. I did not start looking into this until my son developed KPRF a few months ago and I did not want him to experience the same thing I had as a teenager. So I was shocked to realize that this was KP all over my body and that the bumps on my lower legs were not just razor burn. I want to clarify the results I have had from the coconut oil. My thighs have completely cleared up. Below my knees, my skin is soft and free of bumps, but I still have some red dots. More importantly, I can shave on a regular basis now with NO irritation. My butt is clearing up, way better than before, but still have bumps. My arms are the most stubborn but I am seeing improvement there as well. This is the only area where I have bumps with the little white plugs so I have been focusing on exfoliating the arms. Overall, the improvement to my skin is amazing. It feels super soft and it looks very healthy. I will keep doing this and continue to look for other solutions, possibly something that focuses on fixing things from the inside out. If I were you, I would only do one thing at a time so you know what is really working, and give it some time!! |

I couldn't find coconut near me, also because my parents work I haven't had a chance to go buy it. I rummaged through my mom's bath cabinet and found a Bath and Body Works oil that contains coconut oil, so I thought, "better than nothing!", so what I do is I use St Ives Apricot exfoliating body wash regularly with a pink loofah, then I use Ahava Soap that my sister brought over from Israel- it's made with Dead Sea water and salt from the Dead Sea, which is said to have healing properties. After I slather on soap on my KP areas, I exfoliate with a hard loofah and sometimes even a pumice stone if I'm feeling brave! Then I slather on the oil before I run myself under the cool water, and just rub it in and let it sit for 10 minutes, then rinse the excess, then pat myself dry. I've been doing that for 3 days and already I see a decrease in the height of my bumps, and a decrease in the amount. I plan to keep using this method, and maybe even upgrading to full coconut oil!

Hey, that is so weird! My sister brought me the same stuff from Israel just a couple of months ago but I was too nervous to try it because my skin is so sensitive. Thanks for the post, maybe I will add it to the rotation. I can't say enough about the coconut oil. I think you will be happy if you can use the pure stuff.
