KP and Sex

Is there any link to KP and sex? A doctor told a freind of mone that when she becomes sexually active it would help with the KP since it balances the hormones. It would not go . It does not seem logical to me.Is there any merit in this?

re:

There might be a link between KP and sex. I've read that the sebaceous glands are controlled by the sex hormones. [Sebum production is under the control of sex hormones (androgens).] http://dermnetnz.org/acne/sebum.html
So maybe it's linked but I don't think what the dr. said is true. Study it out yourself.

Androgens are male hormones (like testosterone) are one cause for acne as well due to excess sebum production. This is why the pill often helps women with acne. I personally have not noticed that the antiandrogenic pill which I'm on has improved my KP at all.

sex doesn't help

Sorry guys but there is no link between sex and KP. Trust me...lots of sex... (hey, hey i'm married) bumps are still there. Hormones and acne are related because some hormones cause increased oil production in the skin. KP is caused by excess keratin where it doesn't belong. Keratin is what the outer most layer of skin is made out of. It is thickest on the bottoms of your feet. Notice there is no hair on the bottom of your feet. Notice that there are hairs on the places you have kp. The keratin crouds those hair follicles and plugs them up, hence the bumps. hope this helps you understand your condition a bit more. I know it sucks.

I waxed my arms and they felt ALOT smoother (it is so time consuming though). When I first waxed they did look horrible and red dots everywhere! But it goes away in....less than 24 hours :P. You have to be careful you don't get ingrown hairs though, exfoliate exfoliate! (I love Natio Spa exfoliators). Any medicine you put on the KP is more likely to work though after the skin is hair free (salyclic acid etc). Unfortunately it doesn't clear it up completely though. It seems like my body must make new KP bumps every week!!

I epilate all the time and it makes absolutely no difference - I've been doing it for years

Epilation doesn't remove dead skin cells like waxing does though.

That said, I have very fine blonde upper arm hair and dont plan on starting to remove it. I have enough hair on my body that I struggle to remove.

But those of you who are willing to try it, waxing is different from epilating. I have done both on my legs (where luckily i dont have KP, but grow a lot of dark hair ), and ingrown hair is 1000x worse with epilation than waxing cause you dont remove the dead skin that accumulates.
