Question Pregnancy and KP

Hi all,
This is my first visit and post and to be honest, I never knew that my "pimpley arms" was such a common problem with a real name!! I have had KP since I was about 8 years old, on my arms especially, but also on my upper thighs and bum. From what I can remember it was always worse in summer! It seemed to disappear when I hit my 20s but now (at the age of 32), ever since I was about 7 months pregnant, it reappeared with a vengeance! My baby is now 5 months old and the KP is still going strong! I have tried loofa-ing, tea tree scrubs, moisturising, cocoa body butter, exfoliants... seems like everything and nothing seems to work.
Has anyone else had this experience, where being pregnant seems to bring KP on? If so , did it go away and how? Could it be back forever? Could the weight gain be the probable cause and not the pregnancy?
Many thanks to this website and everyone posting... without it I would never have known that I am among many fellow sufferers!
Cheers from down-under,
Lucy

Hi there I live on the Gold Coast, kinda close to you! I have not been through pregnacy yet and to tell you the truth not really looking foward to it. I have been a user of this site for about two months and have found that majority of women while pregnant or after birth find that their KP is worse then ever. It has something to do with the fact that kp sufferers lack vitamin a and while pregnant and breat feeding our bodies are really low in vitamin a, as it all the goodness goes to baby. I have read that some people it dissapears during pregnacy but as soon as they stop feeding it comes back worse then before. Also your hormones are all over the place after having a baby. All we can hope for I guess is that it doesnt stay bad for very long, I mean once our bodies are back to normal all hormones are settled then our kp wont be so bad!!!
Its funny that you get it worse during summer I think you are the first person I have heard say that. Specially here where it is very humid in summer it helps keep the skin from drying out. Maybe its coz in summer you are wearing clothes that make it more noticable!
Maybe look into taking some health supplements such as vitamin a, fish oil, zinc and vitamin b all good for kp. But if you are breastfeeding I think vitamin a could be harmful well I know it is during pregnacy so talk to someone about it first, good luck.
