Hard water?

I just moved a couple months ago from a area with soft water to hard water. My Kp has gotten so much worse, i cant tell if its the stress or the hard water or something else. Has anyone else experienced this with hard water? Any suggestions? I live in a apartment complex so i cant buy those expensive things you attach to your shower head because i cant take off my shower head.

I have a similar experience. A year ago, I changed cities and since then my KP is at its very worst and unbearable. I too am dealing with hard water in this city & also dealing with more stress. Yet, I believe testing the impact hard water has on our KP is something we should explore. Indeed hard water dries our skin, but does it do more than that. Do some minerals in the water aggravate our KP? Unfortunately, I have not had success with many of the methods mentioned on the site to control the bumps. Perhaps it is a losing battle if I am constantly exposed to a particular mineral in my hard water. However, I'm not sure how to explore this. In terms of shower heads, I'm in the same position. Hopefully someone from the board will respond.

True, im not sure to tell you the truth. When i go back to visit my old city which is often it usually doesnt flair up as much. My mom said that it might be b/c hardwater doesnt rinse away soap as much and the minerals and soap just kinda sit on the top of your skin, she said to use bottled water and at the end of the shower just pour that over my body but that just seems wasteful. I've researched online but the only thing i was able to find was the shower heads and then a seperate system that you attach to your water system. Neither which i can do or afford! I guess i could try using my brita system to see what that does.

Well, I bought a shower water filter. The water feels cleaner on my skin....and my body wash rinses away much cleaner. Oh...also, my hair feels smoother after shampooing...cause there's no residue left. It was only like 60 bucks for the filter and each cartridge lasts about 6 months depending on daily usage.

I live in an apartment also, and installed it myself...no biggie.....Katy, its worth a try.

Did your KP change at all, even a little bit after using the filter?

Hm, when I moved to a city with hard water my kp actually seemed to improve...strange. But the water mady my hair very dry and frizzy. So I mixed apple-vinegar into my shampoo or rinsed it with a water-vinegar mixture. It worked because the vinegar is supposed to remove the chalk from your hair. So maybe it helps for the body as well (short rinsing helps to remove the smell). I treated my body with vinegar or "bread-drink" (?thats a literal translation from German now...) after antibiotics, and in that case helped to reduce kp, which has just freshly emerged from the medicine.. But it's not the nicest treatment I can think of...

Hm thanks for the advice, do you know where you buy those or what kind is best? Luckily im going home this summer and i'll use soft water as much as i can! But i'll definately buy one of these when i get back b/c it does dry my skin and hair out really bad. I've noticed that using baby soap has helped b/c it doesnt leave that residue on my skin as much.

I think that hard water has made mine worse, whenever I go home to parents (soft water) my skin is softer and smoother then I come back to the west country and my KP is worse
