If "Supersize Me" didn't stop you... KP and weight

Hi, I'm new here. I had a longer initial post but something went wrong when I tried to post it and now I'm too tired to repost the whole thing. But here is essentially what I wanted to say.

I found that with weight lifting and exercise, that my KP was clearing up. I eventually got lazy and stopped exercising and my KP showed up where it had cleared up before. And also, when I gain weight (5 pounds here and there) I can see the KP spreading (specifically on my forearms).

So If you find your KP suddenly spreading into different areas (virgin territory ), ask yourself if you've gained weight or have become more flabby - perhaps one too many trips to McDonals?

So maybe a bit of exercise (I think, especially lifting weights because it helps burn fat faster) would help.

Hope it works for you. Good luck.

PS. I'm going to try using the pumice regiment a couple of posters have recommended (stone and sponge on different areas) to see if it works for me.

I don't really think the KP has anything to do with gaining weight, i think its more linked to a poor diet which therefore makes you gain weight and your kp spreads since you may not be eating enough veges/fruit to get your essential vitamins and minerals. But ofcourse im not saying stop exercising coz it doesnt affect your KP! i weight train too

I say Chocolate Lab. My friend has one. They are the nicest dogs! They follow you around everywhere (and I mean everywhere!) and so very social.

As far as the topic goes, all I did was work out - I never did anything different with my diet. Simply, I was getting more toned and the more toned I became, the more my skin cleared up (in the same areas). Maybe the overall general activity of exercising just boosted all of my body's processes.

But unfortunately we all know that KP is different for everyone.

hmm.. my kp spread from arms to forearms, i THINK because i gained some weight.. BUT i am also weight lifting. im on a heavy bulking routine so im gaining a little bit of fat too.. but ****, my bench went up 75 pounds in 3 months, so the fat was worth it.. iono if it was worth the kp though!

I workout as well and have KP. My legs are quite firm, and I have no KP there. My arms are another story, particularly the back of my arms where they are not as firm I would like it to be. My KP is bad there. I don't have a six-pack, and I have KP on my stomach. So no one else thinks KP appears in areas where it may be a little umm, fatter? or where fat cells reside?

Watsdat,

I have also been wondering if weight gain makes KP worse. I've always had it, but in the past 2-3 years, I have gained over 30 pounds, and at the same time my KP has spread to my forearms & entire upper arms.

I blame my cubicle for the weight gain. Well, OK, I know, I only have myself to blame, but it's nice to pretend it's not my fault.

So I recently started exercising/dieting, to see if that will help reduce the KP (as well as my waistline).

CC_Camilo,

if KP appeared in areas that had more fat cells, my big bumper rear end & thunder thighs would be covered in KP! And the only area I have it is my arms.

Hello everyone iam new to this site. There are some interesting stories in here. There are some things that i found that work for myself i have notice that weight gain does make KP worse and spread. There's this skin specialist i go to now that is doing a study on me we have tried almost everything. I never had kp untill i gained weight after my last pregancy Theres one thing that takes it away(for me anyways) besides me losing 20lbs We use proactive, the whole kit. and the thing that is important out of the pack is the face peal (MUD) you put it on and it drys over nite and in the morning of course shower and apply steps 1-2-3 agian.I have used it for 2 months now2 times a day and there are only a few spots(a smaller area of my arms now..) there seems to be alot of cases of KP" I work in a hosplital and almost every-other person knows what it is and or has it" whats weird is that before my arms started my face started to get red and different things would flare it up..like drinkin..hot places..or just out of the blue i havent controlled that yet, its on my lower checks,by the jaw line,i hate it it gets so HOT,and it burns .I am starting tanning even if its not the greatest thing for me it does help when i get a tan lol no more red the tan hides it..I get to a point of tanning and the kp goes away..untill the cold winter comes back,(YUK)

Hi rc_rose.

I just started using the Neutrogena gradual tanning lotion, and it reduced the appearance of my KP alot, without turning me orange!! Last thing I want to do is look like a big round orange. I've been on a lose weight campaign for about a week now, I'm hoping that once I lose 20lbs it will reduce my KP as well. It's great to hear that it had a positive effect for you!!

Are you in a clinical trial? I've been trying to locate clinical trials on KP, but haven't had much luck. I'd love to be a guinea pig. I've even thought of getting involved in putting together clinical trials. KP affects 40% of the population, but since it is "only cosmetic" (according to my now ex-physician) there are no real studies focused on fixing it.

That is why I came to this site, to see what ideas for treatment are out there, and what other people say has worked (and HASNT worked) for them.

i belive sweating and a good diet will help kp but not clear it .. because for me. . i have clear skin in all the places i sweat. Arm pits, Inner thighs, inner arms, neck, and face for me are all clear but every where i dont sweat im covered in bumps and all dry and cracky skin so i dont know if its the same for any of you but it deffinatly is for me. but i have a horrible diet i do go to mcdonalds to much and i havent touched a veg since i was 10 which is around the time my bumps started poppin up everywhere! so i really hope to turn to a good diet and lose some weight and sweat a little more because i dont usually sweat.
