Re: Problems with picking
Please please please try to fight the urge to pick them. I have had what my mom called "heat bumps" all over my arms since I was a child. When I got older I began to pick. My arms are absolutely hideous now. To the point where I am so embarrassed and ashamed to even show them. I can't stop picking mine, I have been picking for years now (5+)
Please don't pick them. Your arms will look 1 million times worse. Good luck with this! |

Re: Problems with picking
I haven't tried it myself but I've heard very good things about rose hip seed oil for getting rid of scars. I know Aubrey Organics sells it.
For some reason, the scars on the main parts of my arms aren't noticeable but on my shoulder's they're really bad even though I rarely have it there. But I've just been focusing on getting rid of the KP first, then I'll worry about the scars. |

Re: Problems with picking
I went to the dermatologist today and they put me on the Bye Bye Bumps treatment (see my thread I posted about it). They said I can't pick, pop, squeeze, anything for 6-8 weeks. This is going to be hard because I do it all the time. It's like I can see the bump and I know it has something in it and it's screaming pop me. I guess when I get the urge I am going to put on a long sleeve shirt and keep busy. My hardest time is right before bed I go into the spare bathroom because the mirror is in a good place and pinch them...with my nails or the black head tool thing that is metal with a loop on each end.
I need your guys support because I really want to give this treatment a chance and stop the scarring! |

Re: Problems with picking
One thing I've found really helpful is that when I put coconut oil (or any other type of oil) on my arms, they are too slippery to get a grip. It also happens a bit when I use a slippery moisturiser. Although, I know some people are on treatments and the oil could interfere with this maybe?
I would reccomend gloves/mittens but with it being the summer now it is maybe not a practical suggestion ![]() |

Re: Problems with picking
I know this won't work for the guys with KP.
But, has anyone ever heard of getting acrylic nails- on the thick side to prevent you from popping them? I read that somewhere and I guess it's harder to pick. ![]() |

Re: Problems with picking
Hawaiianpunch-
I've seen the post on acrylics, personally don't like the smell. You also run the risk (depending on the nail tech) of permanently damaging your natural nails. I'd ask around and see if anyone would do an acrylic overlay, which is applying the acrylic over your natural nail as apposed to a tip. You would need to have some length on your nails for this to be done. This is obviously my own opinion, but I have seen the damage, the green fungus, and have heard many horror stories. You just need to be aware of who and where your getting it done! BTW-I have my Cosmetology license so let me know if you have any other questions. ![]() I was on the stoppickingonme site and found a list of picking distactions. There was a link to this site www.tangletherapy.com/ . I thought this might work for me. I haven't bought them, yet, but I'm going to buy a few. I also pick mostly at night in the bathroom (if you read some of the posts on the picking site it's seems pretty common), so I definitely need 1 for each bathroom. Anyway, good luck. The bright side is that hopefully in 6-8 weeks your compusions will be better! |

Re: Problems with picking
I am glad to hear that I am not alone in having this problem. Compulsive picking and KP are NOT a good combination. I've gotten over it a little just by pausing every time I star to pick and thinking about how much I hate the scabs and scars, but I also found some support on this website: www.stoppickingonme.com. There are forums and even a 12 step program (I never tried it, but it could help others). Hope that helps!

Re: Problems with picking
yeah - it's a horrible combination. Thank heavens i somehow managed to back off so my arms wouldn't look terrible for my wedding last year. I just wish i could have the resolve to have kept it up since then.... i'm really trying now.
