okay i just tried it.

while in the shower, i soaped up my upper arms with Olatium bar soap. im still not sure if this soap helps or not. i think it does because it kinda makes the skin tighten up and the bumps seems to get hard yet smooth. so i think it made it easier to rub down the bumps.

anyways, i stood in the shower and scrubed away on my arms. it does hurt, but nothing that i couldnt handle. i was both careful and deliberate. i would relax my arms and go up and down with the stone. i would then flex my arm and follow the lines of my muscles. circles hurt the worst, but i think its because they work best.

after i was done with the stone (took about 15mins), i used some Dove body wash, the kind with the little beads in them. I rubbed the loofah all around my arms, with the Dove wash on them.

when I got out, my arms where bright red. some of the bigger bumps had a red blood spot right in the middle of them.

i took the most wet part of my towel and rubbed my arms some more to try to smooth them out.

then I folded a papertowel into a square, soaked it with perodixe, and applied it to my arms.

BURNS!! Really bad at first. But of course, the pain died down and I can see the white, scabby stuff on my arms. i released alot of tiny hairs on my arms, and i can see the little scabby stuff attached to hair folicles. these looks like they will rub right off.

i dont want to touch my arm too much right now, but they are definetely smoother. the sandpaper analogy is perfect. my arms look like hell, all red and raw. but they are smoother. and i think if i keep up with lotion and stuff during the week, i will see some improvement by next weekend.

i have a theory that rubbing the hair on the skin helps to break up the KP before it turns into a bump. if u can get to the hair inside the bump, and rub it around to make the root strong, then u can break up the KP. this is why I think we dont get KP on our scalp as much. The roots there are strong. the backs of our arms have very fine hairs that easily get trapped.

anyways, hopefully this works!

I would like to know if any one else has had experience with this. Positive or Negative.
I am willing to try it based soley on these 2 testimonies. I'd just love to hear more.

-Lonewolf, has yours ever come back?
-The pumicer, does this treatment work on the face (which the skin is much softer on)?

Thanks for the hint. I really hope this works. I will reply back when I do this and tell everyone the results.

My concern with this pumice regime would be is it affecting the pigmentation of your skin in the long run if you're over-pumicing? What I mean, and maybe it's not the same thing, but over the years when shaving my legs, I would get a nick here and a nick there, or a bit of razor rash, and it adds up. Now, when sun-tanning, these old nicks don't tan and show up as little white dots. I know of others who have noticed the same problem. But on the other hand, when I've skinned my knee, my knee still tans. Not sure if the razor nicks are deeper than skinning a knee, so maybe it’s nothing, just something to think about.

the pumicer: I have to admit I found your attititude refreshing, and your story humorous and always glad to hear a success story. I must admit I have tried all the things you hear other people saying works for them, i.e. Dry Brush Method, AHA, BHA, amlactin, etc. None of those things worked for me. Like you, I decided to quit worrying about it. I was fed up with obsessing over it, and then a GF bought me BBW Aromatherapy Eucalyptus Spearmint lotion to give me as a pick-me-up, and I used it b/c what the hell, I wasn't even worrying about it anymore. Then I noticed it started going away within the 1st week. I would say that now it is well over 95% gone. I would even go so far as to say it is at least 98-99% gone. So the story is, it was a complete fluke that I found a way to successfully get rid of mine. I will say, I did use a pumice stone on the backs of my arms, but I always followed it up with vaseline or aquafor and even then, it seemed to alleviate the KP. Now I wonder what would have happened if I had done the follow-up with rubbing alcohol instead.

I think a easier way to accomplish this is to use 2% Tazorac gel every day afer showering. When I first went to a dermatologist about this in the late 90's, she prescribed Tazorac and some cream base to apply over it. Well after a week, my skin started to redden as the Tazorac started to thin out the skin, then eventually scabbed up after I stopped. I softly exfoliated with a salt scrub and when I was done my skin had cleared. However, since KP is DNA driven the bumps came back in about 2 weeks. Furthermore, since I am a man of color, my skin hyperigmentated where the scabs were and the bumps came back worse. I'm sure the pumice and alcohol thing would be a bad idea for anybody with darker skin. However, for a white or lighter skinned person, I'd think Tazorac would be a less brutal way to do the same thing.

i was worried about this. smooth skin but darker, redder spots.

my skin can tan very deeply, and it can also lighten up if i avoid sunlight.

either way, i cant seem to escape the dots. if I get darker, the dots get darker.

tonight i showered as normal, except that i didnt put any soap on my arms, just the water.

when i got out i put on AmLactin, which has acid in it, and it burned. so its burning something, hopefully its the KP.

i put regular lotion on the rest of my body.

Well I tried this over the weekend and it didn't work for me Not sure though if maybe I didn't scrub hard enough? I scrubbed enough so that some of the KP bled and I had some red angry looking patches on me, but not everywhere I scrubbed. I put the alcohol on afterwards (or surgical spirit as it is known here) and it stung like hell for a few seconds but then was fine. I would have thought the fact that it stung would indicate that I had scrubbed enough?

I didn't get any of the white stuff that other people have mentioned nor have I got any scabbing whatsoever. I can only figure that I didn't scrub hard enough but I'm not to happy with that as I think scrubbing any harder will cause lots of bleeding and you're not supposed to put surgical spirit on broken skin.

Anyway I'm going to try it again next weekend.

Not too sure about pumicing my arm to death, but i have tried using the nail brush (hard not soft) and that seems to work.its up to u how gentle or aggressive u are iwth the brush but it works.

the other thing i have tried is using a aha pel from ebay, takes 5 minutes and u get super smooth skin i done a half and half to see the difference and u can see!!! iv used 30% but next time gona go for 50% or 70%, as I normally use 30% for my face. try it. it works and its a bargain on ebay.

any questions just ask.
