keratin

does anybody know what amino acids make up the keratin protien? this would be useful to us. this would be good information to know when preparing a diet. maybe even useful in creating a medicine to combat kp. does anyone have any ideas on where i could find such information.

lol, sorry jake but the human body uses about 20 amino acids and uses almost all of them in each protein.. eliminating them is not going to help

you know keratin is made up of amino acids bind together by disulfide bridge. i do laboratory research and work on polymerase gel electropheresis. we use beta mercapto ethanol to break these disulfide bridges so that the proteins can travel freely down the gel. now since keratin is made up of these bridges, if only we can find a way to bottle up the mercapto ethanol and use it as a cream on our skin.

hmm well as far as i know BME isn't the most skin'friendly thing thats out there and what's keeping this from having the same effect on other proteins?

Also it would have to be lipid permeable

it's also pretty expensive as far as i know, making it a topical cream may be expensive.. BUT it is a good idea, i'm just nor sure if it can be done

whoever can create this BME tropical that's lipid semipermeable to cure keratosis pilaris will no doubt make loads of money considering more than 50 million people have this skin condition

yeah but you would need some major funding. BME is real expensive, it speeds up transformation by 3-fold, i mean seriosly its almost like a steroid lol.. its actually listed as a biohazard tho, there are a lot of more things with disulfide bonds, like molecules with ATP
