Hi everyone. I've had KP forever and it was recently diagnosed correctly for the first time. My derm told gave me Amlactin 12% and Carmol 40. When I asked how long it would take to get results, she said that it generally takes about three months to lose a layer of skin, so about that long.
I've been reading all the posts and am wondering if we aren't giving our remedies enough time to work. Admittedly, after two weeks I want to see more improvement than I've seen, (I've seen some spotty improvement on one arm) but I'm really trying to give it the full three months before I start judging whether it works or not. Has anyone out there used any course of treatment for a three month period? I know I would have the tendency to give up with no improvement over a couple of weeks or so. And I want to say how happy I am that this message board exists. Its helped show me that a. I am not the only one and b. some people do get results with different therapies. Take care! Alana |

Good point there about giving it time. The skin cycle is about 6 weeks and you really need 2 cycles to see the effects. At 6 weeks it may appear to be worse. That would be one skin cycle with then new skin trying to adjust.
I assumed that everyone here had read about KP with the anatomy & physiology of skin. You might be right about people expecting results with only 2 weeks time. But then if you are only using surface peels or exfoliation then you can't really expect it to have any effect on the deep layer or origin of the skin. |

Yes, my daughter (and I) have been using the same oils (jojoba, sweet almond, etc), she uses epilpt, and also differin gel (by eyebrows). We're out of tea tree cream for awhile now or otherwise this would be another she would be using also. She alternates what she puts on at bedtime depending on her mood. This is working pretty well for us, most especially her. She has been doing this for over a year now, neither of us exfoliate, although I have tried a sugar scrub and also salt scrub (one I made, one was a gift). I have looked over all the different products used on this site by members and in the future may consider trying something else, but for now we'll stick to the same and see how it goes. |

I have been using Sulfer Soap for 1 yr. and 3 mos. It really did a great job and still continues to do so. I have just recently started a S.A., Urea, Curel Q10 mix and although it makes my skin really soft to the touch I'm not sure if it will do the trick of getting rid of KP and work well enough to stop scrubing w/ the soap. I guess time will tell. I will know it's working if my arms become bump free, that is the area that has been hardest for me to clear up. My legs are clear from the soap and I'm not too worried about my arms they are not bad at all. I will keep you posted on this lotion mix. Kim

Lets give it time...
I think with so many possibilities out there it is really important to give each possible remedy time to work. By not doing that, we may be missing out on something that might really help. I'll continue using my Carmol 40/Amlactin mix for probably another few months until I write it off. And I have seen some small results. I guess if my skin has been this way for 20 years it might just take some time to get better! :-)
Don't get me wrong...I'm still hoping that some genius will come up with a way to clear this stuff up with one application! Until then, I'm going to be patient and really give my skin the time to get better using the course my doctor recommended. |

You're really very right.. I started to use a mixture of Kerasal Forte (containing 10% urea and 10% s.a.) and Dove Silk Body (moisturizing cream). I am going to stick that and use it for at least three months though the mixture causes some acne. I hope it works.
