I resorted to Tanning

I was so desperate with my KP I just started using a tanning bed. I've only used it once so far and I'm sure my skin looks better. I wish I didn't have to resort to this, but nothing else works! I just wish I had smooth skin like everyone else! It's so frusturating. Has anyone found relief besides tanning? I suppose all the bumps will come back once I stop tanning?

I found that the only thing that has ever helped mine is tanning. Of course, like you said, as soon as I stop tanning, the KP comes back. I hate to go to the tanning bed, but it's the only thing that really works! After tanning before my wedding last year, I actually had smooth arms!! But by the time winter rolled around and my tan faded, the KP was back. I just had a baby so I wasn't able to tan while I was pregnant, and my arms are awful right now. I hate to resort to the tanning bed, but I guess I'll have to.

After four sessions my skin is looking better. My thighs have no bumps on them anymore! (I had mild KP on my thighs). My forearms are free of bumps. I love using the tanning bed now lol! And it is so relaxing. My skin is getting so dry though! I feel like I am constantly moisturizing it. When I was a kid I was tan most of the time (playing outdoors etc.). I never had KP when I was a kid. But now that i've gotten older it suddenly sprung up on me. I guess it's because I don't spend that much time running around outside exposing my arms to the sun!

It's very embarrassing.

For as long as I can remember I have had small red bumps on the tops of my thighs, hips, and the back and sides of my arms. It can be very embarrassing. As I was reading on here someone had typed "if your skin isn't hard and callused you don't have KP." Well mine isn't hard and callused but it definately has tiny bumps and it is red. Maybe mine is a mild case. I'm sick of being ashamed to wear shorts and cute tops because of this skin condition. The tanning bed helps some but doesn't make it completely go away. I've noticed that laying out in the sun does better than the tanning bed but in all honesty I hate doing both.

I read that alpha hydroxy lotion was good for this. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I have always thought I was the only one because I've never known anyone else to have this except for my mother.

Thanks!!!!

My skin isn't hard either...I just have red dots on my thighs and arms. But i'm sure it's KP..and it sure doesn't feel like a mild case to me

Exclamation

Watch out w/ the tanning beds. They lead more rapidly to different types of skin cancers compared to being exposed to regular outdoor sunshine. Tanning beds helped me too, but I've had to have moles removed because of abnormalties in them and I attribute that 100% to the beds. If UV light helps you, it's much better to just go outdoors in the sun, tanning beds are much too concentrated w/ the rays something equivalent to 20 minutes in a bed/4 hours in the sun.
