My KP treatment that worked.
This is my first post here and I'm excited to share it. I've had KP since my teens but I think it just got worse about 6 months ago. I've had eczema also since I was a baby and I read somewhere that eczema sufferers are more prone to KP. Anyway, I didn't know what I had was KP until I did research over it on the net.
What worked for me was KP duty, Carmol 20 (just for dry skin not really KP), Kavi Glycolic acid 60, over the counter steroid cream. KP duty works because of the urea and glycolic acid. Urea makes the skin smooth and soft (like no other other ingredients in lotion can). I am guessing its urea because its also an ingredient in Carmol 20 and that stuff is amazing for dry skin. Anyway, the glycolic acid speeds up the skin regeneration process (?). It brought out the white bumps with discharge once I started using it which is GOOD because I think essentially KP is some kind of abnormality in the skin wherein it has difficulty in shedding the dead skin cells properly. KP duty is ok but I wanted it to work faster so I got the Kavi glycolic acid 60. Its the strongest glycolic acid that I found. I'm not sure if there's anything better or stronger out there but if there is please let me know! I use that maybe 2 or 3 times a week. The instructions said to leave it for just 10 minutes but I actually leave it on for several hours. The Kavi made the bumps and discharge come out faster. It's been about 2 weeks now since I started on the Kavi and the skin on my arms is smooth now. I'm amazed. I'd cringe whenever I ran my hand over my arms but now they're just normal. I have a few more bumps but I'm pretty optimistic that they'll flatten out soon. The KP on my thighs is a different issue though. There's a marked difference but not as much as what has happened on my arms. The only problems I have now are the redness and the spots. I am guessing the redness is caused mostly by the glycolic acid. Once I don't need the glycolic acid I am thinking the redness will go away. The steroid cream which was prescribed to me by my doctor should help with the redness. I've just been using it for the past 3 days so I'll let you guys know if that works. So basically - Use a loofah when you shower/bathe. After you shower, use KP duty over the affected area. Use Carmol 20 if you generally have just dry skin (anywhere). Use Glycolic acid twice or 3 times a week (really depends on how "guerilla" you are about KP). I do not recommend using the steroid cream during this period. I think you should use it after you see some improvement. KP duty - you can buy this online just do a search. Carmol 20 - got it from CVS pharmacy. They usually don't have it in stock but you can order it and it'll get there the next day. No prescription needed Kavi Glycolic acid - you can get this online. do a search as well. it always shows up first anyway. Steroid cream - any local pharmacy carries this. mine is Desonide. Doesn't matter really. OTC has the same strength. I hope this helps you out! let me know if you have any questions. I'm pretty confident with the "treatment" i have above. I went to a dermatologist last week and all he told me was "there's no cure..only treatments". He prescribed a low potency steroid cream. Honestly, it was such a waste of time. If I treated my KP with just steroid cream, nothing would have changed. I've been using steroid cream (bethamethasone which is a strong steroid cream) for the past 23 years of my 23 years here on earth. It's good for eczema but I don't think it'll do anything for KP. It's for inflammation and redness only. I hate these doctors who are so lazy to spend even an iota of their energy to actually helping their patients! anyway...rambling on too much... ![]() Last edited by wellwish; 02-26-2006 at 12:12 PM. |

JOHNSON'S® Baby Oil Gel With
http://www.johnsonsbaby.com/products...itamin-complex
After using this for a month or so, the KP bumps cleared up & the hairs started coming out! I use it while my skin is still moist right after a shower & light pat drying. I also avoid fragranted, too acidic lotions, etc. My skin doesn't look perfect, but atleast the bumps are gone, & the hairs are growing thru the skin instead of plugged up. ![]() My skin is so sensitive from sun, laundry & dish washing detergents, etc. I have some eczema, psoriasis, dandruff, scaly dry skin, & a little acne. |

Hi!
The back of my arms are cleared up, & my legs cleared up about 90% with just still some red dots & a few ingrown hairs once in a while. I have been using Johnson & Johnson's baby oil chamomile gel for about a year now. The product has been reformulate for about a season now, & it seems to be a little less concentrated. Not as great as the original formula when there was almost no ingrown hairs at all. I also use parabyn free, fragrance free laundry detergent, lotion & wash. More natural products are better. Re: My KP treatment that worked.
I have extreme flaky dry skin, so the super intense baby oil gel makes my skin so moist that my skin is able to exfoliate, yet not dry/irritated. Acidic lotions irritated my sensitive skin. However, if you don't have sensitive dry skin, maybe a loofa and exfoliating lotions might work for you.

Re: My KP treatment that worked.
Ok, keep your skin moist with the gel after your shower. Don't let your skin dry out by not taking a shower for too long. Don't use anything else on your skin. I hate chemicals!

Re: My KP treatment that worked.
okay thanks
![]() I want to try this, I've tried a few things that my dermatologist perscribed, and nothing works. I'm 16 and in highschool, and I want to get rid of my kp before the warm weather comes, I HATE hiding under long sleeves, which is what I do at school in summer time, and the warm weathers coming soon :/ |
