Vitamin D/calcipotriol.

I found some information about a vitamin D-like substance: calcipotriol. I copy and paste from this site http://64.233.179.104/search?q=cache...l&ct=clnk&cd=6

(Jeez, what an adress.)

Topical calcipotriol
Calcipotriol is a synthetic vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) analogue, developed by modification of the side chain to enhance the antipsoriatic effect of vitamin D3 and ameliorate its hypercalcemic action.

It performs anti-psoriatic action by binding to vitamin D receptors (VDR) present on the keratinocytes, and by inhibiting cellular proliferation and inducing cellular differentiation.
[74] Various studies have demonstrated its potential use in several other dermatoses by its immunomodulatory effect.[75] It acts on monocytes, macrophages, B and T lymphocytes to inhibit thymocyte proliferation induced by IL-1 and the release of IL-6 and IFN-g from activated mononuclear cells. It reduces the number of infiltrating neutrophils and causes progressive reduction in dermal cellular infiltrate with a shift from CD4+ helper cells to CD8+ suppressor cells.

Topical calcipotriol is available as 50ug/g ointment, cream and solution internationally, and in India, as cream form.

Miscellaneous disorders: Both, case reports and large controlled trials have demonstrated its usefulness in keratinisation disorders including juvenile and adult-onset pityriasis rubra pilaris, inflammatory linear verrucous epidermal nevus, ichthyosis vulgaris, epidermolytic hyperkeratosis, lamellar ichthyosis, Sjogren-Larsson syndrome, ichthyosis linearis circumflexa, X-linked ichthyosis, hereditary palmoplantar keratoderma, acanthosis nigricans, keratosis pilaris and Darier's disease, with twice daily application for 1-4 months.[

Looks promising! But how to get this stuff for experimenting? Anyone with ideas?

Um, this is already in my calcium tablets! I got it at target, and its

Origin
Calcium 600 + D USP

that's on the front, should you want to buy it. It's 8 bucks for some 400 tablets.

As far as I have been able to find out, KP, ichtyosis and psoriasis are like cousins. They are all about the calcium-metabolism in the skin going wrong. Vitamin D influences this metabolism. ut there are a lot of different compound that are all called vitamin D, but are different. Forms of Vitamin D:
Vitamin D1: lamisterol
Vitamin D2:
ergocalciferol (ergocalciferol: A fat-soluble vitamin that prevents rickets) (made from ergosterol (ergosterol: A plant sterol that is converted into vitamin D by ultraviolet radiation) )
Vitamin D3:
cholecalciferol (cholecalciferol: cholecalciferol is a form of vitamin d....
[follow hyperlink for more...]) (made from 7-dehydrocholesterol)
Vitamin D4: dihydrotachysterol (22:23-dihydrovitamin D2)
Vitamin D5: irridated 7-dehydrositosterol

Vitamin D, sunlight and skin color

There are several forms of the vitamin. Vitamin D2 is derived from ergosterol in the diet, whereas vitamin D3 is derived from cholesterol (cholesterol: An animal sterol that is normally synthesized by the liver; the most abundant steroid in animal tissues) via 7-dehydrocholesterol. Ultraviolet light (UVB especially from sunlight is responsible for the production of the vitamin- 50,000 IU in a few minutes of exposure.) However, in certain parts of the world with limited sunlight there is the possibility that the quantity of vitamin D is not always sufficient. To prevent this possibility milk may be fortified with vitamin D2. A deficiency of vitamin D leads to rickets (rickets: Childhood disease caused by deficiency of vitamin D and sunlight associated with impaired metabolism of calcium and phosphorus) which is a softening of the bones owing to faulty mineralization.

The active form of the vitamin is calcitriol which is synthesized from either D2 or D3 in the
kidney (kidney: Either of t

So vitamin D2 and D3 have to be metabolised before they are useful for the skin. There are medicins for psoriasis and ichtyosis that contain calcitriol or
calcipotriol. They work better than D2 or D3.

Most of those links dont work

But anyway I suppose CHOLEcalciferol would be the one derived from CHOLEsterol...

I should copy and paste more careful. I get excited when I think I am on to something. That happens regularly, I think all of us KP-sufferers know about that. Last time it was a few years back with fish oil. It really started to work. The liitle red bumps disappeared from my lower arms. I was so happy. But that was it, just my lower arms. And after a month they started to come back. And stayed.

But I will keep searching and experimenting. Fighting the little red bumps like Ellen Ripley did with the Aliens. Maybe in the end I won't fall into the abyss holding the bumps close to me.
