Hello everyoe, as you know I've been keeping a blog of how the medication is working on my skin and pleased to say after four weeks my skin is 98% clear on my right arm, extremely smooth without any other forms of treatment other than taking the tablets 3 times a day, my right thigh on the outer right edge is also the same and i'd say now 95% smooth underneath my thigh. the little raised spots have completely gone - it's a slow process. My left side is exactly the same and a constant reminder how difficult KP is, it is extremely rough and bumpy the little tiny brown/reddish spots still there. There was a tough patch on my right side of my leg just the side of my knee on the outer edge and this is slowly subsiding. I'm drinking lots of water and exercising also at the gym with Pilates which is just great for circulation. It's taking it very slow, inch by inch - but I'd say nothing short of a miracle with the smoothness on my right arm - will keep you guys informed of my progress.

It's genetic. and we're all related going back only about 3,500 generations (140,000 years):

Re: KP contagious or STD?
Suzy070- what med are you using? I must have missed that post.
Jeo- I also believe kp is contagious. My boyfriend, who at 52 had perfect smooth skin, developed kp after sleeping every night with me for several months. He now sleeps in another room due to snoring (!) and his skin appears to have cleared up mostly. Since kp is not clearly understood, I think we should keep open minds as to whether this is genetic, contagious, passed along in families by intimate contact, etc. I know that my kp has seemed to migrate- it started out bad on my upper arms and thighs, and has now moved to my forearms and calves and is much worse there. The upper arms and thighs are not as bad as before, almost as if the causative agent "migrated". I don't pretend to know all the answers. I am just desperate for a cure. The thing that used to work to clear my legs was getting a bad sunburn, then continuing to tan, and shaving my legs regularly. At one point, that routine cleared all the red dots from my legs and made them very smooth. After having a skin cancer removed, I'm too scared to tan any more. Has anyone else had their kp clear after a burn/tan cycle? After the tan faded, the skin would stay clear and smooth for months. |

I truly believe that KP is caused by some type of microbe, which could be passed on from birth mother to child during pregnancy/birth (making it appear hereditary), through close contact with others, or even possibly 'catching' it through external means like a bug bite, the bug being the carrier of the microbe (like ticks carry Lymes, etc.). Maybe it is a microbe we all naturally have (like strep on the skin or H. Pylori in the gut), but it has a tendency to get out-of-control in some people.
Through various cleanses, my 5-year old daughter has cleared up to the point where she has just 5 or 6 bumps on each arm. The rest is completely smooth skin. This compares with, at her worse, a 50% covered torso and neck, fronts and backs of upper legs, and backs of upper arms, not to mention her face. Outside of cleanses (parasite, fungal, liver), the single biggest difference was made when she had her adnoids and tonsils removed, which were extremely infected (to the point where the doctor said they were like mush). In hindsight, I wish they had cultured the infectious agent. I haven't been posting lately, but recently there was something in the news that I thought would be of interest to this group. It acknowledges that dandruff and other skin conditions, like eczema, are caused by a fungus. While it does not specifically mention KP, to me it is a solid start that microbes are finally being recognized as causing some of these so-called 'hereditary' issues. Dora,
That's great that your daughter's skin is so much clearer. Perhaps you would like to post on the Parents' Corner and share the methods of cleansing with other parents. kebod |

Dora- could you also describe here the cleanses used? Maybe they would be of help to all of us.... Dianne

Re: KP contagious or STD?
I think it can spread from person to person too. I don't recall having it as a child, and started noticing it in my teens, after I started hanging around with a friend who had it fairly bad. In my 20's, I married and my husband started noticing it on his arms too for the first time.
One thing to note: I went on birth control pills shortly before getting married, and was on them for several months. That messed up my system, and I got a bad case of systemic candida that gave me hives for years until I figured it out. I have beat the hives but never completely beat the KP (it varies in intensity). Our kids have it too, but since we had it before the kids were even born, I've no idea if they picked it up from us or got it genetically. Is there anything that mimics KP I could look into? I certainly can't find anything on the web that describes our skin better than KP. ![]() |

Re: KP contagious or STD?
Sorry people, but KP is not contageous. Mox, perhaps your husband has always had a very light case of KP, but just never really noticed it until you came along. (Remember, KP is supposed to affect quite a number of people.) The other thing I can think of is he's got family members with KP too, so it's in his gene too, but his was just never triggered until he started living with you. (perhaps something to do with diet now?) My mom has absolutely no sign of KP whatsover, and she's been with my dad for over 30 years. (they sleep in same bed, etc...)
