Talking Cetaphil and pumice sponge

I am recommending the Cetaphil lotion because in addition to watching my KP I've seen red "rash type" bumps here and there on my face. My older daughter gets them too. The Cetaphil is good for skin with all sorts of problems like eczema and dermatitis... or just plain dryness. I wanted to throw it out there as an "ah-ha" product.

I started using it yesterday. It's for your face, arms, legs, wherever. AND I can use it on my kids. My younger daughter has KP on her cheeks.

The pumice sponge is mine alone. I use it on my arms and have been touting it on the boards for months. It's still great and I anticipate the Cetaphil (which dermatologists love) to be my second step, of a two-step routine.

Anyone else used this super gentle and effective moisturizer??

I use the Cetaphil soap. I usually get the Aveeno bars for my son. He has really bad eczema. But, I bought the cetaphil since the doctor said Cetaphil and Eucerin were wonderful products to use. I have been using it along with him. After a couple of weeks use I had pulled out a bar of dove soap...one with a lot of fragrance to it. My skin was so tight after washing that I ran out to the store to buy some more Cetaphil bars.

I also picked up a pumice sponge the other day. Mine looks a lot coarser than the pictures ya'll had posted. But, I use it gently. My skin feels soft, still bumpy, but soft.

Question just curious

Hi,
I read your thread and was wondering where you can buy a pumice sponge? Is it hard like the pumice stone used for calluses? Thanks!

I bought mine at Wal-Mart. I couldn't find one at any of the local pharmacies. It is in the pedicure section. Its not as harsh as the stone. Trust me I know this. But, you still want to take it easy.

Is the pumice sponge...well, sponge-like (i.e. soft)? I have used pumice stones on my feet. The sponges I saw at online look pretty rough.

Patchouli,
I think you already answered my question. I guess I wasn't reading thoroughly. If it is pretty rough and have to use it lightly, do you (or anyone else) see results better than, say, a loofah?
thanks

No, its not soft. But, its not solid like a stone. In fact its kind of brittle, the one I have. Its kind of like a hardened sponge. Truthfully, I think I am going to check into a body brush. At least I can go to town with that.

Well, a loofah is alright...much gentler than this sponge. I'll try the sponge a couple more times before I give it a full nay or yay. Have you seen those rami mitts? I almost bought one. That would be a good alternative to an abrasive washcloth. Speaking of my friend swears that the Dollar store has the best towels and washcloths because they exfoliate your skin better than the softer ones you can buy at other department stores.

I haven't heard of rami mitts where do you get them? I did have a mitt that had a fine mesh. It exfoliated very well and made my arms softer. I got it at the Dollar Store. I have just recently started (seriously) exfoliating again because it was suggested that I try stopping it. By the way, my kp got worse when I stopped.

Yeah, I can understand not picking because that does make it worse, but I've got to exfoliate or its bad. Just a flaky, scaly, bumpy mess.

The rami mitts are usually by the loofah sponges. I saw these at Wal-Mart and Rite-Aid.

There is no "universal" cure for KP that works for everyone. For some, manual exfoliating does make it worse and for others, it is necessary.

Has anyone here tried 1 of these 2 products yet:
Vaseline Healthy Body Complexion lotion
Palmer's Skin Smoothing lotion with AHA/BHA?

I haven't tried either of those. I do know that Jergens smoothing lotion with BHA/AHA works pretty good. Just give it time if you try it.

I have tried using the Jergens smoothing lotion with BHA/AHA and it did zip, nada, zero as far as improving my KP.

Right now, I am giving the Palmer's a try, but I am seriously skeptical. Eucalyptus lotions are what is working for me, and if the Palmer's doesn't work (which I doubt it will, but somehow I feel compelled to "test" it out) then it's back to the eucalyptus lotion.

I have the Palmer's lotion and am giving it a test run (currently), but at the 1st sign of the KP trying to come back I will be back on the eucalyptus spearmint lotion train so fast, it could give one whiplash! lol
