got rid of the bumps !! What about the marks ??

Hi, A couple of things that worked for me in reducing the bumps are
1) Scrub tea gently on the effective area, as tea is non bacterial and most importantly its soap free scrum !!! after scrub, use a moisturizer, I cycle this treatment every 4 weeks and then change the treatment for the next four weeks, as I think scrubbing tea daily makes the skin dark.
ps. Don't scrub to hard, gently in circular motion.

2) I also used scalicys acid ointment prescribed by the dock.

3) Also I discovered that most of the creams which are advertised for dry feet, work well on kp as most of them are ment to soften the skin.

All the above will only reduce the bumps ??
Does any one have any idea on how to get rid of the marks left by kp.

I have never been able to get rid of the redness but I can tell you what I've found to exacerbate it:
1. Sun- on the advice of some people on thios forum, I went out into the sun to get a tan, but for me it had a bad effect- the dots and my arm in general turned a deep ugly red that lasted the whole summer.
2. Prescription creams like tazorac might work well for the face (it did for mine) but they consistently make my armd redder.
3. Psychologically, it helps to wear shirts abd clothing that do not bring out the red as much- for me, lighter colors make it look worse while black and brown do not seem to clash with it so much.

I'm looking forward to other people's suggestions!

The same thing happens with me Sad, especially since the summers here are SO sunny and hot.
I'm still looking for a way to get rid of these marks and scars!

If you guys are using Salycilic Acid on your skin be sure to wear sunscreen if you're exposing your arms that day, or you'll end up with pigmentation which will make the skin redder!

thanks quidditch! I am not using sal.acid right now but I did make that mistake a few summers ago... I find that even with sunscreen, any sun exposure makes my kp marks darken. How frustrating.

Skin brighteners?

Anybody tried skin brighteners? They're not as strong as bleaching products so you can use them over a larger area. They're supposed to help w/ hyperpigmentation and post-inflammatory marks. Acne sufferers sometimes use them. I've never tried them and I'm trying to decide if they are worth the money. DermaDoctor sells some.

ok here's the deal, the bumps are easy to get rid of because they are on the surface, however the red spots are actually further underneath the skin so in order to get rid of the red spots, you have to continually exfoliate with some sort of mild peel like glycolic acid. I use a 40% glycolic acid peel once a week, but you can use lighter than that. I have begun to see results after years and years of treating my skin, plus I use elicina cream twice daily which i believe made the biggest improvement in my skin. These are the best results I've seen in the 8 years i've had kp, the key is consistency and patience, its going to take a while to bring the inflammation to the surface. I am going to make a thread of my routine shortly.

hey brian,

did elicina really help...you really recommend it. It promises to do like everything and that made me really suspicious...
