Medication that reduced keratin?
Hi- a week ago, someone wrote an intrigueing post about a medication for seizures that was found to reduce keratin as well. The person mentioned that his derm told him about it. I don't know why more people didn't jump on this (perhaps too much false hope?) But I am intrigued and really do wish to find more about it- to the person who wrote the e-mail, what is your derm's name? Did he mention the name of the med?
Has anyone else heard about this? |

If it's a medication for seizures, chances are it has a pretty significant influence on the chemical activity of your brain. As much as I'd like my kp to go away, I'm not so sure that messing around with a healthy brain is worth the chance of a maybe possible cure/help for a (when it comes down to it) very superficial skin disorder.
But yeah.. I do agree, more info is needed. |

My mom's a pharmacist and I asked her to try and find out the name of the medication but she couldn't find anything on it...

Hi all
I’m studying pharmacy in Australia and as far as I have researched there in no anti-seizure medication approved for the indication of KP (in Aus). I am interested in what anti-seizure medication is approved for KP use in America. |

I am a pharmacist and I don't know of any anti-seizure medications that are being used for keratin production. However, alot of medications have "unlabeled uses"--ie. indications that have not been 'proven' to be effective by the FDA. I suspect that is how this anti-seizure medication is being used. Also, anti-seizure medications seem to have the 'longest list' of unlabeled uses. Obviously, the primary indication for anti-seizure medication is seizures but I also see them widely prescribed for migraines, nerve pain, and mood disorders (all unlabeled uses)--so why not for KP?--haha! But seriously, I would be interested to see which medication this dermatologist is talking about!

As a pharmacist, is there a way you can figure out which medication it is?

I have thought about this too, but am not sure how it would affect hair. I wouldn't want to take something that may thin or weaken my hair.

This medication does not exist. Don't get your hopes up.
