I'm new here and I have KP

I'm 16 and I've had KP for as long as I can remember. I've tried going to doctors and dermatologists, having them give me products that don't work on my skin. I've used the Lactin products (I believe that's how you spell it), acne treatments and every possible moisturizer or lotion that might work. No one else in my family has this condition except for me. Recently on a trip to Ecuador, we visited a family doctor and he said that his daughter had the same thing and a dermatologist close to him gave her a specific prescription. I visited him also and he told me what I've been hearing every year from everybody else, "it's hereditary, it's when the hair follicles, blah blah blah" and then he showed me pictures as everyone else had. In the end I didn't find the prescription anywhere. But on the next trip my grandmother made by herself she found it, they are pills called NEOTIGASON, I used it as the doctor told me to, for 6 weeks take 1 every 12 hrs. and then reduce to 1 every day. Well I did as he told me and the side effects are AWFUL!. My skin EVERYWHERE on my body started to completely fall off. In a way it's a good thing since the skin on top of the KP falls off and leaves new rejuvenating skin but also VERY BAD because you can't control your skin falling off. I couldn't even wash my hair because I couldn't feel my hands because they felt so weird. My lips became very very chapped and I tried putting chapstick every 2 min. and that didn't even help that situation. Anyway, I stopped using the pills and I see that I guess they did help because the bumps reduced, I've been thinking about using the pills again only once a day this time. But I'm scared of what the reaction might be. Has anyone heard of this product? Or does anyone have any other "cure" for KP?? It's so embarassing being in high school and have people ask you why you always wear long sleeves in the summer, especially if you live in FL!! PLEASE!! if you know anything that might help, let me know!!

I've definatly not heard of those, sounds a little TOO strong, ya know? Like I've said on other posts, I've had lots of luck with gentle, chemical exfolation and light moisturization with mineral-oil based products. I'm sick of typing this over and over so just do a search for my posts : )

What do you mean falling off?? Like really bad peeling?? I don't know if that's really worth it even if it does get rid of the KP. To me that's almost as bad as getting chemotherapy to treat it. There has to be a simpler solution.

This is from the web page:
Consumer Medicine Information

Do not take Neotigason if
  • you have had an allergic reaction to NEOTIGASON, Vitamin A, other retinoids or any ingredients listed in the Ingredients section of this leaflet.
  • you are taking tetracycline antibiotics (such as doxycicline HCl-In Australia, Doryx®, Vibramycin®, in New Zealand Doxine®, Doxy 50®, or Minocycline HCl, Minomycin®)
  • you are taking vitamin A, or preparations containing vitamin A.
  • You have severe liver or kidney disease or abnormally high fat levels in your blood
  • You are also taking methotrexate.
Do not take NEOTIGASON after the expiry date (EXP) printed on the pack.
It may have no effect or, worse, an entirely unexpected effect if you take it after the expiry date.

Perhaps you had a very bad allergic reaction?

Re: I'm new here and I have KP

Hey Kebod,

this was an old post up there, I just posted wtihout noticing that the post is so old. However we can further discuss Neotigason here...
How can one know if he's allergic to Vit A or Neotigason?

And BTW, it's pretty hard to convice the dumb doctors to give you a prescription + it's very expensive (about 70$)..
If my KP is really extreme do you think my health insurance can give me a discount for this drug? has anyone tried to get?

Re: I'm new here and I have KP

Orichamo,

I'm sorry I can't answer your questions, but I think you would be able to learn more by googling Neotigason and Vit. A. You will find so much information on this subject.
Good luck, and let us know what you learn. Your health insurance agent can find out if this drug is covered by your insurance.

Re: I'm new here and I have KP

I've already posted a thread about it with some explanations, it's a pity we are not making a good conversation there.. here it is.
