Inconsiderate People

I am SO tired of people being inconsiderate about KP. If someone has acne all over their face, you don't ask them what's 'wrong' with them, so why would you not extend that courtesy to other parts of the body?

Things that I've gotten (most of them at school) :

"Are you okay? Your arms are all red"
"What's wrong with your arms?"
"Why do you have pimples on your arms?"

Can't people just ask "What's that on your arms?", that's the most considerate way to do it and doesn't make it too awkward.

For 50% of the population having this disorder (supposedly), why have so many people never seen it?

Now, this year is going to be even more annoying because recently my KP has started getting worse (it has spread to the underside of my arms, it was never there before). All this **** that the derm is giving doesn't help at all

yeah really. i used to work with kids and i usually wore my work shirt (short-sleeved) with a sweatshirt or other shirt under it in the summer. I didn't one day and some girl asked what was wrong with my arms "do you have chicken pox" hehe i just said "no, it's just a rash". I guess kids don't know as well not to say stuff like that, but i know how you feel.

Yeah its damn annoying. I have it on my face, red cheeks and if im out people will make a comment about them or if there is a subject like sex or something naughty, Im not embarrased to talk about it, heck I enjoy talking about it but someone will say oh look your embarrasing him etc.

****es me off big time, inconsiderate wankers.

Yeah, I don't understand how they got that statistic of 50% of the pop. having KP and yet so many people don't know about it. Someone I had been seeing a while back had noticed it on my arms and was curious as to what it was...

Yeah.. people can be so insensitive. I'm just glad that my good friends don't mind. I haven't told very many people about my condition, and no one has really asked. I've noticed a few coworkers looking at my arms, but they never comment on it. I think they know we're all born differently and we all have our trials. If they asked, I'd be happy to tell them about KP. I have no problem with educating others about it.

^^ Exactly, if they didn't look at me like I was a freak, or like I was 'sick', I'd be willing to tell them that I have a *genetic* skin condition -- so they don't assume I have a rash or an allergy or am just uncleanly...

I have people coming up to me and telling me that my baby has a rash on her face. I'm like, "really?! I never noticed that!" These "Masters of the Obvious" should probably think before speaking.

I've found that a lot of people who ask me what's on my arms then go on to ask what I think's on THEIR arms. As a lot of people have KP and don't know what it is (I went to 2 doctors and only the 3rd knew what it was, by then I was 13) So maybe they're curious because of a similar condition they have?

Just a thought...

Also I don't think people are trying to hurt your feelings or offend when they ask. Infact I'd rather someone come up to me and ask than have them guess and discuss it with other people! It's not anything to be ashamed of really, just a bunch of blocked pores!
