Hyperhidrosis & KP

I was wondering after reading a recent thread about how many KP sufferers also battle hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). I think there is a correlation, because the sweating issue didn't occur until the KP spread past my arms. I know they're are different ways this disorder manifests itself, so many may not battle hyperhidrosis. I am reading Dr. Pagano's book "Healing Psoriasis", which touches on toxemia and Psoriasis/Excema. He basically thinks that the body is overloaded with toxins and the skin is used as an outlet to rid the body of these toxins, resulting in a sort of malfunctioning of the skin. I guess excessive sweating is a byproduct of the body using the skin to rid itself of toxins. I am going to try the Pagano diet/method, when the weather cools a little. If this doesn't work, I am going to try a raw food diet mixed with colonics, enemas, special teas, supplements (i.e EFA oils) and natural moisturizers like shea/cocoa butter. I posted a link below of a women who cured herself of an horrible skin condition by going on a raw food vegan diet, when doctors could do nothing but provide useless medications and silly theories on the causes.

I am wondering how many people on this board have an excessive sweating problem coupled with KP?

hey, im not sure if i have hyperhydrosis (sp?) maybe i have a mild form of it. yeah i have kp too (duh! haha). yeah i too was wondering if there might be a link between the two, seeing as soo many ppl seem to be complaining about it. neways before i knew what hyperh. was when i was like 16 i remember sweating alot through my blouses and uncontrollably. it didnt happen all day just during the day, i dont know why. since then though, ive eaten healthier and dropped some weight and i started working out my arms. i have noticed i dont sweat like that anymore so thats why im wondering if ive ever had it to begin with or maybe it was just a weight problem. i do sweat still though if i wear tight shirts and i think i do sweat a little more than my friends but i dont sweat under my arms the way i used to. im still wondering though if i might have a mild case of it and perhaphs a change in diet and exercise brought it way under control. also my kp isnt as bad as it used to be. so im still wondering if its because a change in diet/exericise or just beca.use im getting older ( and u know the saying about kp and age).

i really want to do the raw diet thing but i dont have much money to be spending so i just gotta eat whatever my mom buys u know? i cant afford to buy my own groceries.

I think it is possible that i have it too cuz I know for me I have to use Secret Platinum Protection otherwise my deodorant doesn't work, i'll smell from sweating when I'm not even doing anything strenuous. And it has to be the solid too, the gel doesn't work for me.

I have hyperhydrosis as well. Magnesium seems to help me quite a bit (and did a good job exfoliating my skin, along with calcium), but it only works temporarily. I have to make sure I take somewhere around 750mg a day, or else I'm back to sweating. Magnesium is supposed to inhibit the release of catelcholines, i.e. adrenaline and noradrenaline, so maybe that is why it is stopping my sweating permanently. I don't just sweat when I am nervous or have an "adrenaline rush", I sweat all the time. So now that my adrenaline is lowered, I'm going to start trying Gaba now. Gaba is an amino acid that inhibits the release of acetlycholine. I think this should help because I worked backwards...I found out what Botox does, and started to read about how I could duplicate Botox naturally. This is something I read about Botox:

http://www.michaellawmd.com/botox3.html
BOTOX for Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)
The chemical that is released by nerve endings to stimulate muscle contraction, acetylcholine, is the same chemical that causes sweat glands to produce sweat. BOTOX works, in both cases, by preventing the release of this chemical, thereby blocking muscle contraction and blocking excessive sweat production.

So obviously Gaba wouldn't block the sweat glands, it only inhibits the production of acetylcholine. Anyways, I hope you find this somewhat useful. I also wrote another post on "Amino Acids" and how this could relate to skin.

I never thought of a connection between KP and hyperhidrosis until now! Looking back, my hyperhidrosis got out of control EXACTLY around the same time I started my "battle w/ KP"--which was around my freshman year in college. I have even gone so far as to research permanent treatments for hyperhidrosis--ie. sympathectomies, but I think the risks far outweigh the benefits.
Lindsay, I just had my baby around 6 weeks ago and now I am going to start back on Yasmin and I hope that helps with the KP--like I mentioned in earlier threads, it has gotten out of control all over my arms. I am also going to start supplementing with magnesium and zinc and continue taking my prenatal vitamins--which also have some omega-3s that I think helps with skin probs as well. How is your supplementing going, any changes recently? I would like to know what supplements you are currently taking. I am considering going to a naturopath for mineral/vitamin analysis to find out exactly which nutrients I may be deficient in. I know we will find "the right combination" of supplements soon--I think we are making great progress!

Hi mvmorgan. Congratulations with the baby!!! I hope you're both doing great!
I decided to switch from Yasmin to Marvelon last month. I think the progesterone level was a little too high for me, so I will see how it goes with Marvelon. As for my vitamin and mineral supplements though, I haven't changed that (well, except I take potassium now, since I'm off Yasmin). I take 80 mg of potassium, 25 mg of zinc and 500 mg each of calcium and magnesium. But this is in addition to my multi vitamin and mineral. I take Usana multi vitamins and minerals (they're supposed to be really good), and I will copy down the info on them just in case you are interested in this as well. And then I also take acidophilus, fibre and fish oil.

This is what is in each multi vitamin, and I take three a day.

BETA CAROTENE (PROVITAMIN A)5,000 IU
VITAMIN C (POLY C - CALCIUM, POTASSIUM MAGNESIUM AND ZINC ASCORBATES)433 mg
VITAMIN D3 (CHOLECALCIFEROL)150 IU
VITAMIN E (d-ALPHA TOCOPHERYL SUCCINATE)150 IU
VITAMIN B1 (THIAMINE HYDROCHLORIDE)9 mg
VITAMIN B2 (RIBOFLAVIN)9 mg
NIACIN3.3 mgNIACINAMIDE10 mg
PANTOTHENIC ACID (CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE)30 mg
VITAMIN B6 (PYRIDOXINE HCI)9 mg
VITAMIN B12 (CYANOCOBALAMINE)20 µg
FOLIC ACID333 µg
BIOTIN100 µg
COENZYME Q104 mg
LIPOTROPIC FACTORS: / CHOLINE (BITARTRATE)33 mg
INOSITOL50 mg

And this is what each multi mineral contains, and I also take three a day.

CALCIUM (CITRATE)90 mg
MAGNESIUM (HVP* CHELATE)100 mg
ZINC (CITRATE)6.7mg
IODINE (POTASSIUM IODIDE)75 µg
COPPER (HVP* CHELATE)1mg
MANGANESE (HVP* CHELATE)1.7 mg
CHROMIUM (HVP* CHELATE)100 µg
SELENIUM (HVP* CHELATE)66 µg
MOLYBDENUM (HVP* CHELATE)16.7 µg
VANADIUM (CITRATE)10 µg
SILICON (HVP* CHELATE)1 mg

So I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. In terms of how it's helping my skin, I would say pretty good, although only improved to a certain point. On a scale of one to ten, ten being the worst my skin has ever been, I would say that I was able to get to a three. This would be with the bumps though. The reddness hasn't diminished very much, it would maybe be an seven out of ten. But I hope you've read my post on amino acids though. I know this sounds ridiculous, but I started taking a few of them on Friday, and today, only Monday, my skin feels absolutely wonderful. Like the best I can ever remember it feeling. So I guess I will continue with that and see how it goes. I'm crossing my fingers... And I agree, I think we're making great progress. And geez, wouldn't it be nice to figure this all out before your baby starts getting older!
