Just got back from the Derm....

Hey I just got back from the Derm and I asked him about Salex and the Keralyt and he actually told me to use Kerasal instead because it's cheaper and it's essentially the same thing except its all mixed into one. He told me to try it for a month and come back to see if he needed to change anything. He told me he has tons of patients who have KP some which have gotten better with age and some who are able to control it but he said everyone does different things to control it so he just told me to start with this and go from there. My KP isn't all that bad, but I do tan a lot to help conceal it. Anyways I'll try the Keresal and keep you guys posted.

Hi April! I dunno. I'm no derm but I've purchased kerasal for my feet and it's very very greasy. It stains the sheets too. Keralyt dried and doesn't stain and it's only about 5 bucks more. Kerasal also has other goop in it. But let me know what happens! And hey- did your derm mention that putting the 6% salicylic acid on (that the % in both products) every day is bad/can be toxic? I've been trying to get some into about that...I guess not since he told you to use it..

kpstinks: Salicylic acid is only toxic to pregnant women... There is also another lighter version of Kerasal (as a lotion-called Kerasal AL), except that here, Salacid is replaced by an AHA.

Kerasal

Thanks for the tip about the kerasal...I'll check it out...

But that's not true about salicylic acid. It is absorbed through the blood stream so that's why you can't take it if pregnant and if you're nursing...it can hurt the baby...it's not only toxic to a pregnant woman. in large quantities, salicylic acid is absolutely toxic regardless of pregnancy ...man, woman, child... . The only thing I'm not sure about is the level an that you have to take before it's toxic...I think that happens mainly through ingestion- too much asprin most likely....

He said I could use it everyday, in fact he told me to put it on twice a day. I even asked him if I could tan while using it and he said it would be ok. I am only going to try this for a month and I have an appt to go back and see him if I need to change it to something else. How long did you try the Kerasal for? I hate using greasy products.

I don't know it doesn't say anywhere. The Keresal you tried was it an ointment or a cream? Because I have the Kerasal AL, I haven't it yet but I'm wondering if that's greasy too.

april, the kerasal I tried was for feet- it was an ointment. I am really liking Keralyt. It's 6% and 10 bucks on ebay...

I tried the Keresal AL and it is a cream and it's not greasy at all. It's making my skin really smooth so far, but it's only been a couple of days. Do you have to have a prescription for Keralyt?

Cool! Keep me posted please!
As for the keralyt, no prescription is needed! You can get it at dermastore.com but I like ebay...it's first class, non expired goods. Saves a couple of bucks. I think they also have a store OTCretail or something...I'll find out for you.
