question about tanning

hi. i was just wondering, for those people who find that tanning actually helps hide the redness - did you notice that at first, when you started tanning, your red spots would turn purplish/darker in colour?
i was out in the sun in my backyard yesterday for about a half an hour trying to get some colour on my arms to hopefully disguise the redness - but once i came in, the dots were so much more noticeable and was a darker purplish colour i was talking about. does this mean that tanning isn't going to help me - or is it just a temporary side-effect that will go away as i tan some more.
any feedback from those who have had success with tanning would be greatly appreciated. i don't know if i should continue tanning or try some other method. thanks.

Hi! The only time the red dots turned a purple color was on my legs, when I stood in one place too long. Like when I would apply make-up or blow dry my hair. I guess something to do w/ the blood flow. I never had it from the sun. Maybe it was because you were still for a period of time????

well, the problem is with my arms and i was lying down so i don't think the problem is standing on it for too long but thanks anyhow. my legs aren't really that bad - i used to have bumps on my upper thighs but then i started rubbing msm lotion on it religiously for about a month - or however long the bottle lasted me - and the bumps just went away, along with the redness. i didn't use it on my arms because i didn't really think it would work anyway and i was doing a ton of other stuff to my arms anyway. but my upper arms are a total mess right now...i tried using the msm on it but it didn't do anything. i used retin a for a while but then stopped about 2 months ago because it stopped working for me....

i really want to try the whole tanning thing to at least try to hide it or camaflouge it a bit to make it less noticeable....but the question is does tanning help everyone or make it worse for some people...does it look worse before it looks better??

thanks

Tanning

When I first started tanning the bumps would actually look worse for the first few times, but then got significantly better!! My advice is to keep tanning and see what happens, but don't stop scrubbing and moisturizing.

tanning has always drastically improved the look of my KP. and now, because i've been using the sulfure soap, i hardly have any bumps and only a little bit of redness so it doesn't take that much sun for my arms to look normal. also, i am very fair skinned and freckly so i don't tan at first, i always burn. after i've been in the sun, of course because i have a bit of a burn my skin is red and the bumps, being red to begin with, are even more red. but after the burn fades to a tan, the redness of the bumps starts to fade as well. and after i've spent some more time in the sun, everything just starts to blend in and i just have tanned arms as opposed to having red dots everywhere. my legs are more of a challenge and i just started trying to get some colour on then within the last few weeks. i'm making some progress so we'll see where i end up. also, i'd like to add that tanning alone has never, ever helped with the bumps. it wasn't until i started scrubbing that they went away.

i have been tanning since i posted my reply - a little bit each day and i do see an improvement and the spots are starting to blend in with the rest of my skin. i am happy to say that it did get worse before it got better. my question is after you get a good tan do you have the confidence to go out and bare your arms? i am beginning to get to the point where i think i can feel comfortable enough to at least wear a t-shirt in public but my skin still doesn't look completely normal. i guess i just need a little bit of encouragement since it's been so long since i've actually shown my upper arms in public or to my friends.

also, after i come in from tanning my upper arms are all red and hot (not the dots but the whole outer part of my upper arms) and that is not so with the rest of my body so it looks really bad. after i cool off the redness goes away and it looks fine, but i really don't want to walk down the street with my friends and have my upper arms turn a fiery red and draw even more attention to it. does anyone else have this problem as well? is it a circulation problem or what?

thanks...

My arms get red easy too. And not the bumps like you just my whole upper arm. I think that since we are using so my different chemicals on our arms that our skin is more sensitive.

Talking tanning

cujo,
The last time i tanned, i did it for at least 2 weeks, and i got pretty dark, we were going to lake tahoe, and i was determined, well the end results were fabulous, the darker you get, the more blended your skin tone gets, it was perfect, honestly it was the first time i actually wore shorts and tank shirt, my skin looked perfect, it was the best time of my life, so just keep tanning and i know you will be sooooo happy with the results.
