My KP seems to stem from the fact that I have a problem with ingrown hairs, I am constantly having to remove then from my lower legs, upper arms and behind my thighs. Does anyone else have this? I am also going to dicuss lazer resurfacing with my derm to deal with the ugly brown scars on my arms. Does anyone have a
good ingrown hair remedy? I have tried tend skin....Thanks |

Hi, I too have felt that mine is related to ingrown hairs, have KP on my lower and upper arms, and used to have my arms waxed a while back, still do on occasion. But would really like to find a remedy!! I'm glad i'm not the only one whose felt this way! Yes i've tried Tend Skin, but, unfortunatly, it only works on my razor burn. ~ Katie

Hi Sads-
Do you use a loofah brush to scrub when you take a shower. I think that when you are on the hairier side it makes the KP worse. I also used the Tend Skin product. It worked for a while and then it dried up my skin and made it worse. What I noticed worked but took some time and effort was shaving in a downward motion, in the direction your hair grows. I shave every 2 days and use Aveeno shaving cream. I also use a new razor every time. When you shave, don't press on your skin to hard (you don't want a clean shave). If you press, you will get more razor bumps. When I get out of the shower I air dry and put moisturizer (Aquaphor). Remember, it takes time. |

Most of the information I've found points to over production of keratin in the outer layer of the skin as being the main cause. I think the ingrown hairs might be a secondary condition caused by teh keratin buildup clogging hair follicles.
Just my opinion. Rick |

if you have really thick body hair..do u think ur kp would be worst than other kp sufferers? because my cousin doesn't have it, but mang her leg hair is the thickest i've ever seen..except on guys. my hair is really fine and thin, but i kept thinking if i had her thick hair...my kp would be like hell to control....

Yeah I get that too. I don't think it's related to hairyness, my legs aren't that hairy. Also I don't shave them so it's not from that, though I bet shaving does make it worse. I agree with rick, I think the ingrown hairs are the same reason as the KP, just too much skin overgrowth you know? Using a buff puff will help...basicly the any of the same stuff used for KP I assume would work.
