Msm

i was at the store the other day and saw MSm pills and Flaxseed oil. Well a teaspoon of flaxseed oil is 40 fat calories and havng to take 5 teaspoon per day is too fattening for me, so i bought the MSM pill instead. Is this effective or have i just wasted my money? and how long until you're suppose to see results?

i've been taking MSM pills off and on for around 8 months now and i honestly don't think they are doing anything for me. i think for the pills to be effective you would have to take an enormous amount daily. no thanks! if you are not already, i would suggest scrubbing with the sulfur soap and if you need something else to go with it, try to find some MSM cream at your local health store or pharmacy. i've been putting MSM cream on my arms for quite a few months now and they've stayed around 90% clear since i've been using it. good luck.

Is the MSM cream irritating at all? Do you have to put a moisturizer on after?

Cool

no, it's not irritating at all. i use a brand called Prairie Naturals. it's a Canadian one so i have no idea if you can get it anywhere else but it's really good. there isn't really any smell to it and it practically goes on dry. i put on a moisturizer after i shower once a day and my skin is fine. it's not dry or anything. it has 19.5% sulfur, which seems to be the standard from what i've seen. you should give some a try if you find it.

both the bumps and the redness have been reduced. the bumps are pretty much gone except for the little patches here and there that just won't die. and as for the redness, i don't really have much of it anymore. it's not totally gone, but when i think back to what my arms looked like before i started treating them, well they were just a disaster. tons of little red bumps just everywhere. i'd say now the redness is about 75 - 80% gone and the bumps are around 90% gone. and i'm pretty sure it was the scrubbing that took care of the bumps and the lotion was what helped more with the redness.

also, i mentioned this on the old board as well, but there is a line of products available in drugstores called Dermarest. It is for the treatment of Psoriasis and they have skin and scalp treatments. I have been using the skin treatments since the end of last year and it really helps a lot with keeping the bumps away and the redness gone. you can either get a lotion with 2% salicylic acid or a gel with 3%. i usually buy the gel. it isn't greasy and has no smell and it is helping me considerably. i know i obviously don't have Psoriasis but it is used to treat Seborrheic Dermatitis as well.
it says it's uses are to treat "skin itching, irritation, redness, flaking and scaling. whenever i have a little flare up it is pretty much the only thing that can get rid of the bumps very quickly. i use it ever night before i go to bed. and i use the MSM cream after my moisturizer in the morning. so far so good.
