If you mix sal acid and Carmol 20 in a glass dish, you'll get a "broken hollandaise" type consistency. So just mix it on your skin and then exfoliate. Forget about trying to get sal acid from your pharmacist--just buy a tube of Keralyt (6% sal acid). Try to use equal parts of Keralyt and Carmol 20 and you'll have a 3% sal acid solution by weight (the same percentage recommended by Brynn's mom). I use Keralyt by itself, at full 6% strength, so I wouldn't worry too much about getting it exactly right unless you need to make it mild enough for a child's skin. If this combination works for you, THEN work at finding a pharmacist who will give the sal acid powder to you. Keralyt is available over the counter (apparently Eckerds carries it, plus you can get it at Dermadoctor.com and Dermstore.com). Keralyt is ten bucks a tube, so the sal acid powder will probably be cheaper--if you can get it. Try it first to make sure that the trouble is worth it. I don't use Carmol, just Keralyt plus a steroid cream. It's the best combo I've found so far. I've NEVER been to a derm who recommended salicylic acid, even though it's MUCH more effective that the LacHydrin they tell us all to use.
