My one year old has KP on her cheeks. Her derm has put her on differin applied every other day. We apply it in the morning, because if we put it on at night she rubs it in her eyes. I am aware that it can take approximately three months to work, so I am trying to be patient. Lately (week three) she has broken out in more inflammed red bumps, and about every day, one of her KP bumps becomes inflammed with a white head, which I assume pops at some point. Is this the medicine doing its job? I know differin can cause something similar with acne, and I would just like to hear something from someone who has used differin that can tell me if this is a normal part of the treatment. If so, I will just put up with it. Regardless, I am on the cancellation list at the derm's office, but I'm not sure how much faith I have in him at this point. Other than the differin, we use cetaphil wash and lotion. She has not had any issues with drying, but we keep her pretty greased up.

Hi
My 10 month old was diagnosed with kp on his arms and excema on his cheeks and possibly his upper shoulders. He was prescribed a cortisone cream for the excema but I wonder if it is more so the kp on his cheeks. Does anyone know how I can tell the difference? I asked about the bumps on his arms at his 3 month and 6 month appointments and was told that it was nothing then at his 9 month visit when it had gotten much worse they finally diagnosed him with kp. Apparently I have it as well but didn't know it. My husband also has a history of very sensitive skin.

I have been doing a lot of research since then trying to find a treatment. I know that keeping him moisturized is supposed to help. I only bathe him 2 to 3 times a week, unless he has a particularly messy day, as I know frequent baths can dry out the skin. I switched from Johnson's baby wash when he was a month old to Aveeno baby moisture wash with oatmeal. Are there any suggestions for treatments for babies? I have seen a lot of suggestions for exfoliating to get rid of the bumps but I am a little weary of scrubbing his delicate skin. I'm so frustrated with people gushing about what an adorable baby I have but then getting the "ohhh what are those bumps all over him" questions. Any advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated. I'm just trying to find a solution that will work so I can prevent it from getting worse that we can maintain since this will be a life long issue for him. Thank you all so much!

P. s. after reading some more posts I have seen some people mentioning different food triggers, I'm wondering what foods trigger kp and or excema. I make most of my sons baby food and I try to stay away from processed foods but I'm wondering if something he is eating is contributing to his condition.

My son is 14 years old, 15 in June. He has a pretty bad KP. I bought one lotioin awhile ago however he doesn't seem bothered by the whole thing very much; maybe it's his age.

For a long time now I've thought maybe I was going crazy because it seems no one else in the house notices it but ..... I SWEAR my son has an 'odor'. There is an odor to his bedroom. If he sleeps on the couch then I sit there, even later in the day, there is an odor. So just doing a search online this morning, am I correct that KP can have an odor ? The excess keratin has an odor ?

If so, what can be done about it ? AND, how do I 'tactfully' talk to my son to let him know that he has an odor; an odor that the body sprays he's using doesn't help - can even make worse (or it just mixes with it & blech!) I would assume this is a dermatological thing that I should take him to a dermatologist ?

:help:

Hi,

My 14 1/2 month old son was diagnosed with KP just yesterday. The skin specialist said he has a severe case of it.

It's on his cheeks, arms, thighs and legs.

Firstly I was told he had Eczema and was on steroid cream but that had little affect. Then mid January he broke out in a rash and had two other rashes since but his last rash was verty itchy and the Doctors at the hospital couldn't confirm what it was. I was then referred to see the paediatrician at the hospital where an allergy test was done and thankfully came up clear.

Then I was told it looked like Scabies and was on treatment and repeat treatment (that had no affect) and was also referred to a Skin Specialist to confirm the Scabies and do a s****ping test.

The Specialist had no hesitation in saying he has KP and didn't do the s****ping test.

He recommended trying the following creams/lotions and seeing which ones work best on our son's skin.

1 - Nutraplus cream
2 - Dermadrate cream
3 - Lanate cream
4 - Neostra lotion

After reading some of your posts, I'm starting to feel frustrated as I want my son's skin to clear up. I haven't bought or used any of the above creams/lotions as I wanted to get more information and suggestions as to what works best. But am keeping in mind that everyone's skin is different and what works for one person might not neccessarily work for another.

Thank You in advance for your help.
